Iran Weeks Away From Nuclear 'Breakout' as Biden Team Mired in Confusion

The United States still does not know whether Iran is ready to resume compliance with its 2015 nuclear deal and if Tehran continues to violate the pact, the "breakout time" it needs to amass enough fissile material for a single nuclear weapon will shrink to weeks, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Monday......

if an Iranian nuke is eminent, Israel will probably go it alone and nuke them first.

Iran recently agreed to allow inspectors back in.

Sabre rattling to gain leverage while negotiating is a typical tactic.

The US should have never left the deal. We lost all leverage when we did for any renegotiation or reinstatement.

Yeah, I have no idea how it is that wingnuts just assumed Iran was going to keep abiding by the same nuclear deal that we openly walked away from.

I do hope we give those nice ayatollahs some more billions in cash. They crossed their fingers and everything that they weren't going to be naughty with it.

For thirty years I've been hearing about how close Iran is to a nuclear weapon. Sometimes I hear they are months away, and very often I hear something like this where they are only weeks away. And when that time expires, someone comes up with a new timeline for how close they are to getting it.

This always comes from some group that seems to want America go to war with Iran despite lack of evidence, not caring about the consequences of such a war.

We could win such a war, but only in the sense that we "won" in Iraq. Iran is three times the size of Iraq and every bit as volatile -- the occupation-quagmire would be even more intractable and more expensive. Not to mention the risk of touching off a wider regional war.

Thank you for bringing that up. I've been telling people this for years. America could win a ware with Iran, but the size and landscape in Iran would not be an easy for them. And don't forget the population as well; it's more than double of Iraq, so that's a lot of people who don't like that you invaded their country that you need to watch out for.

The death toll would be much higher than what the military faced in Iraq. So if the US is ever going to go to war with Iran, they better have a legitimate reason to do so, not just because some war hawks are jerking off to the idea of how exciting it would be.

And I do mean real evidence, not like the flimsy evidence that took us into Iraq. We saw how bad that turned out to be.

I'm sorry for going off like this but I'm tired of how people make up excuses to go to war and not care about the consequences.

Well, I wouldn't worry about it too much -- the neocon warhawks, to the extent they even still exist, seem to have lost their influence in Washington. No way can they sell a war with Iran.
