I feel the new format has lost two important features with the comment section. The first is the absence of an ability to put in a title. Second is the loss of the step to review what’s been written before the final submission. Does anyone else have any thoughts about this?

A comment is a comment, not a story. Why would it need a title?

Use Notepad or some other offline tool to type it out and review it before pasting it into the text box.

I just looked at my most commented on story. Every comment has a title - they do add to the impact of the comment and readers use them.

I'm with Trionyx. Site improvements shouldn't lose functionality that works properly - the comments preview and titles worked, why get rid of them?

Is it possible that they're shifting to some off-the-shelf commenting system that doesn't support titles? This is the kind of thing where it makes sense not to code and maintain your own if you can use a standard solution, and AFAIK most of the standard tools for webpage comments don't include titles.

It's a shame to lose functionality, but reducing maintenance burden is sometimes reason enough.

My only issue was that you couldn't put a space between lines.

I mentioned that as a passing comment in another thread and Manu said it was a bug which would be fixed.

Having said that, I agree that titles were a great feature.

Have you tried holding the shift or ctrl key while hitting the return key? That's how it works in that piece of shit that Wankerburger threw together in his basement called FACEBOOK.

Readers are going to encounter this and because any type of change is not always seen as a good thing, they will comment less.

Just like they already comment less now that they see big brother needs to screen their comment.

Yet another blow to the authors who's only pay here is comments, feedback and such...but who are the reason lit gets paid at all.

I know the site was never created with the intention of being an actual business, but once money is involved it is a business. I know not everyone is business savvy, but FFS what is the thought process behind shitting on the people who make you your money because our stories are where the sponsors pay to place their ads?

If I were just starting here and was far more vested than I am now I'd leave.

LS is much better run, but of course you don't get the numbers...but the way lit is going the number of comments and other things you see at LS is going to become more comparable.

Lits running out of toes to shoot off their feet.

You're most likely right, and its not a bad idea except...its been the other way for two decades, now you're going to change it, which is going to cause backlash, but not to them, what do they care?

But they're in a thread asking about anon feedback, but don't ask about anything that will have far more impact....watch my right hand, keep watching...so the left one can do whatever it wants.

Title? No problem. Paragraphs? Please sort it out.

When you leave a comment for the writer of a story you can always make your first sentence your title. I’m more concerned about the fact I write my comments in paragraphs, to make it easier to read, and it automatically appears as one block of text.

As for making comments in this forum you get people making a comment as one long paragraph of 200+ words which I tend not to read. Countless times new writers have been advised to write their stories with shorter paragraphs but that doesn’t seem to have permeated through to many who make comments here.

Something I thought of. Once in a great while I'll respond to a comment. When I do, I use their title in my title so people know who I am replying to

Example "@why would Justin do that"

Now with no titles anyone who replies to a comment has no real way of letting anyone know who and what they're replying to except to repeat their point and even then...

Lit does it again.
