The problem is that social media has become a defacto "public square", and only certain types of speech and opinions may be allowed. That's not healthy for anyone. Even if there is a "Trump" alternative, all that leads to are echo chambers and multiple versions of fact.

I don't think they fit the description of a "public square" when they are censoring and editing content of speech. They are more like publishers. I think they need to be classified as public utilities, like the gas and electric companies, they provide a public service that encompasses the entire world.
