Of course, Cheney is substantially more conservative than Elise Stefanik, who is replacing her. The Trump legislative agenda basically had just one item in four years — tax cuts for Trump and his pals — and Stefanik voted against it on the grounds that it would hurt New York.

But this isn't a problem now, since as their 2020 platform proved, the party now has only one priority: the maintenance of Donald Trump's ego. Stefanik will cater to that without question, and Cheney won't. So she had to go.
