A and B run into each other casually in town. Minor attraction gets them to talking, maybe having lunch. Both are dressed simply, nothing to discern their class or social status. Talk is just chatter, nothing personally detailed, but things of mutual interest.

Towards the end of the day, B needs a ride home. Lost track of time, missed the last ride, lost keys, whatever. A agrees and off they go. A's car/truck/SUV is just sort of typical for their age, nothing special. B gives directions that lead to a private driveway. The road is kind of winding and goes back into the woods. Then, a massive gazillion dollar mansion appears and A suddenly realizes B is part of 'that' family.

A exclaims 'You live THERE??'

Is A in shock or awe? Is A repulsed and wants to get away as quickly as possible? Or drawn in and wants to meet the family?

For the Halloween version of this, it's that creepy old mansion with the gargoyles.

This could be a great lead-in to a "strange bedfellows" type story. The poor one could be some sort of hate-the-rich activist, and the rich one could be a "the-poor-are-lazy-and-deserve-their-misery" type. Once they realize that they are supposed to hate each other, it causes conflict with their growing lust. Which will win out? Their prejudices, or their libidos? Since this is Lit, I'm betting on the libidos.

A and B's genders can provide varied dynamics - are they FM, FF, or MM? Also, suppose A's family is REALLY rich, and B's family estate looks like Tobacco Road to A. Is the richer family's fortune based on criminality in the current or a previous generation?

Twist in ex-Soviet East European style:

It looks just like you imagine so far from the outside at first, and the mansion and lands were in the (coat of arms bearing) family for centuries, but after the war (WW2 that is) part of the palace was used by Soviet communal farm to store fertilizers in, the rest was a local base school until abandoned shortly after the regime change. The only surviving descendants got the property rights back and made the facade and roof of the central part, after selling their inner city flat, but the only reason they have not gone bankrupt paying land tax, even as that is low and the property undervalued, is the only-dwelling protection rules.
