Simple enough premise:

In our story Husband and Wife find out that they must get their final bit of sexual education by laying with their in-laws before they get to finally consummate their marriage.

Modern day fringe society with old traditions, fantasy setting with marriage rituals, could happen anytime or place but do the bride and groom know about the tradition or is it something that is sprung on them?

Of course they don't know because the in-laws invented it all on the spot. But they have this air around them, of being part of some kind of ancient secret society or whatever. It may or may not be long running scam, of course.

or maybe one set of parents fell for the same thing when they got married, and twenty years later still don't know any better.
so not only the newlyweds but the other parents need to be convinced.
the parents with the past experience are desperate to do it, afraid they will be disinherited if they tell their parents they broke tradition. Of course it all started out as a huge joke by drunk horny now grandparents.

For fun, each of the newlyweds' parents have divorced and remarried, giving each newlywed four parents-in-law: Mom & her new hubby plus Dad & his new wife. Everyone is bisexual so the pre-consummation rituals are complex. For more fun, they're multiracial.

Out of all that crowd only three people are familiar with the "tradition" and to different extent: the one pair of original parents who had been set up with it at their first marriage, by parentsof one of them, and one from the opposite side who brings it up, sorta out of the blue, kind of wondering is that still done, or some such (actually shooting dark on a rumor, but hitting a nerve). That the supposed keepers of the "tradition" didn't do anything like this when they remarried may or may not come up in discussion leading to the decision to uphold the "tradition;" we may not know, as newlyweds are jumped with that already as a hard fact.
