My latest has been there for over a week (it usually takes 2-3 days, top). Is there any way to check out and see what’s happening? The problem might be an illustration that I asked be added; I don’t mind if it’s dropped, but I have no idea who I can talk to.

Illustrations usually take a while. If you look at the Illustrations Hub, stories usually come in batches once in a while.

The best and pretty much only way to check on this when you think it's been significantly too long is to send a Private Message (PM) (upper right on this page if you have them turned on) directly to the submissions editor, Laurel, politely enquiring whether your story posting has dropped between the stools. My experience is that sometimes it has and that a polite query gets it published. That said, the conventional wisdom here is that illustrated stories, indeed, take significantly longer to post than others.

My latest took a day longer than average. There may just be a lot in the hopper.

If there is a contest running it will take non-contest stories longer to post.

Thank you for the answers. I see it’s nothing unusual. Might resubmit sans illustration - though I liked it very much, as it gave a very good depiction of my characters (which I’m not too great at doing with words...)

Do what I do - submit the drawing as a separate submission and add a note that it's a character from a story.

Difference audiences, though - but followers could see it.

It is a drawing, not a photo, right? Photos are much more problematic.

Pending timescales

Hi all - I am a first time author on Literotica and posted 2 submissions (the first 2 chapters of a 4 part story) on 14 April. They are still shown as "pending".

What is the normal time to get them cleared? The OP suggests 2-3 days is normal. How about for new authors? - I can see that this might take longer as you have no track record.

I don't think there is anything in them that would be particularly controversial, based on the other stories I have read here.

Thanks for any help.

4 - 8 days for a new author, usually, depending whether there's a contest running.

A painting, yeah. Which makes it harder to wait, as I’m dying to see how people react to it and if it does indeed enhance the reading experience.

Good idea, thanks.
I just went through this very same thing twice in the past twenty days. My first pass was rejected for I’m insufficient photo crediting. The second time it published with my corrections. Each time it took 10 days. My story “Cuckolds Anonymous” remains the most recently posted story on the illustrated page. If you haven’t already removed yours and resubmitted in another category, I would expect yours to be published around the 23rd (hopefully it’s not rejected or you can expect 10 more days).

One other thing to consider is the word count of your story. I included a single photo in a 20k word story and got quite a bit of blowback from the “Illustrated” traditionalists. I received several comments that one picture in a 7 page chapter should not be an “Illustrated” story. My situation was a little different as I was told by Laurel that if I included instructions in the publishing notes for my desire for my story to be placed in “IR” even with the pic, that they would do it. Unfortunately with all the site issues taking place during its pending period I think it slipped through the cracks. In hindsight I wish I had uploaded the pic separately and referenced it in the story as was suggested here.

I submitted a story on the 16th (after it was rejected twice) and it's just been sitting there. Still pending. Not sure what's going on or if it's just time to publish elsewhere.

Yeah, my stories are over a week in pending now... I guess they are taking a break or something. Kind of sucks the spirit down a bit, though. Starting to look for different places to publish.

No photos; not crazy long stories... oh well.

Update: I don't know what factors go into this because I have seen other people get new stories through the pipeline in 3 days, but after 9 days several of my oldest stories have been scheduled for release.

I conclude the publishing system is not a first-in-first-out queue, there is some other logic at play.

I pumped one in Thursday or Friday, but while pending I noticed a couple of things that needed to be changed. Edited, resubmitted late Saturday.

That kicks it back down the line, so we'll see.

There's some bundling of stories to make sure each category gets a steady release each week.

My latest went up in three days.

I hate to bug them about this knowing they're busy. Maybe if it doesn't go up, tomorrow. I just think I messed something up with the edit.

Mine got rejected (first time) but since I've resubmitted it's been in Pending two days longer than normal. Maybe a once-returned story goes into a different queue for reconsideration, but if not then I'd say that the work flow is particularly slow this week.

Edited stories go to the back of the queue and are lower priority - various reports suggest 5 - 8 days, typically.
