The Old Duke Has Popped His Clogs

I read this:

"Under a long-standing plan known as “Operation Forth Bridge,” his death ushers in a period of national mourning.

"Philip had insisted that he did not want the “fuss” of a state funeral at Westminster Hall, according to The Times of London. Instead, his body is expected to lie in St. James’s Palace, where Prince Diana’s body lay before her funeral."

What that means, I don't really know when it comes to a day off.

Phillip came across as one of the 'good guys' of the royal household. I don't know if that was merely a case of his having a good press agent or if it was indeed the truth. Regardless, that is the impression I'm left with.

All I know is we're going to get 24/7 coverage and

the Bidens are breathing a deep sigh of relief.

Hinting now that the Oprah interview stressed him out...

*chuckle*

Blues Clue:

Markle, in the studio, with the tell-all.

Along with tens of thousands of other Britons, I met the Duke of Edinburgh three times. My parents met him more often.

As a young man, engaged to the then Princess Elizabeth, he endured many racist comments such as 'Phil the Greek', the 'WOP prince', etc.'

He fought during WW2 as a naval officer. As the Queen's husband, he had a very difficult role which he performed well.

His remarks, sometimes undiplomatic, were remembered decades after he said them but generally he was very courteous and approachable.

We will miss him.

Philip started courting the 13 year old Elizabeth when he was 18.

The love letters are now under subpoena by Matt Gaetz's lawyers.

No flies on Uncle Dickie finding a warm bed for the lad....she was 8 when Philip first met her.

They held off on going public until she was 19.

No wonder Her Majesty is so tight-lipped about "family matters".

He was one of the few European Protestant Royals. Of course, they knew each other as children. The number of people Princess Elizabeth could consider as a possible partner was very limited.

It feels wrong to even wonder who the other suitors were.

Bummer. No day off I suspect.

Low key service then back to the Stag & Pheasant for sandwiches. :(

ah dear Ogg Oggy Ogg, never miss a chance to invent a name drop eh?

by the way, the racist thing you mention about your mate Phil Mount B - you are seriously full of shit.

He gave as good as he got - but did it ever have a malicious undertone?

"The Philippines must be half empty as you're all here running the NHS." (on meeting a Filipino nurse at a Luton hospital in February 2013).

"There's a lot of your family in tonight." (after looking at the name badge of businessman Atul Patel at a Palace reception for British Indians in October 2009).

"Do you still throw spears at each other?" (In Australia in 2002 talking to a successful aborigine entrepreneur).

"You managed not to get eaten, then?" (suggesting to a student in 1998 who had been trekking in Papua New Guinea that tribes there were still cannibals).

"It looks as if it was put in by an Indian." (pointing at an old-fashioned fusebox in a factory near Edinburgh in 1999).

"How do you keep the natives off the booze long enough to get them through the test?" (to a driving instructor in Oban, Scotland, during a 1995 walkabout).

Was he a visionary ? This quote suggests he might have seen problems coming from china -
"If it has got four legs and it is not a chair, if it has got two wings and it flies but is not an aeroplane, and if it swims and it is not a submarine, the Cantonese will eat it." (at a 1986 World Wildlife Fund meeting).

Im not a royalist, but the guy was from a different time, the look in the queens eyes in some of the engagement picture / videos tells a story. This time yesterday i was fearing losing someone, so i personally gain no satisfaction at his death, royalist or otherwise.
"We didn't have counsellors rushing around every time somebody let off a gun, asking 'Are you all right? Are you sure you don't have a ghastly problem?' You just got on with it." (about the Second World War commenting on modern stress counselling for servicemen in 1995).

So glad you are still alive though Ogg, keep breaking those records brother.

Cracking post. Hope it doesn't end up in the Personals.

it feels more disturbing that you have gone directly into '' pedo hunter '' mode.

Anything you want to confess to? you do seem to be protesting a bit too much but certainly you seem to be well read on the subject.

Nah.

Cashback probably only posts personals on things like 'bunty.com' or 'choirboy monthly' ''are you missing your mummy ?'' contact the Egyptian dept. for Antiquities and grave robbing - would get him all riled up behind his keyboard, with his trusty clutch of pedo questions. Did Enid B have unnatural issues?

I'm sure the female staff at Windsor breathed a collective sigh of relief.

And he was Greek...

He wasn't. Although he was naturalised British before his marriage, according to the British rules of royal descent, as a descendant of Queen Victoria, he actually had British citizenship from birth.

As he said he had no affinity to Greece who had assassinated his grandfather and sentenced his father to death.

PS. According to the same rules of descent, so was the Kaiser of Germany and the Tsar of Russia. Odd.
