I submitted my latest chapter in the Illustrated category on March23rd. It got rejected on April 2nd (10 days later) for improper photo credits. I fixed and resubmitted that day and am back in “pending” hell. Thoughts?

4 days isn't that long, especially right now with the Site having its hands full with vote problems. I'd wait a few more days before drawing any conclusions or making inquiries to them.

Agreed that 4 days isn’t too long, but 14 is. Does it not seem that resubmitted stories should make it to the top of the pile? I realize the site is going through some current challenges, but I can’t fathom waiting another 6 only to possibly have it rejected again. My readers hate me right now.

My experience has been that resubmissions actually go to the bottom of the list and tend to take longer to be published.

My latest story, published today, took the normal two days from submission to posting.

Yes, I could see why illustrated stories would take longer. As for the idea that resubmitted ones should, I guess we have a difference of opinion unless someone is egregiously causing wasted time for the organization. If a writer accidentally puts a web address in a story, should they really have to wait more than twice as long if they simply remove it and resubmit? I would say no.

And btw...I didn’t blame the site, I stated my opinion and simply asked for other people’s thoughts about the scenario

Why should others submitting stories be inconvenienced in the one-time posting of their stories to let a resubmitted story push through? I agree with giving precedence to the first-time posting of a story. Yes, each additional resubmission disadvantages the posting delay of those who aren't fussing around with their stories like this.

This thread has gone off the heals a bit, and it could be my own fault for not being more clear. My biggest issue was that it took 10 days before it was rejected the first time. This is the first time I’ve ever submitted an Illustrated story, but would none of you been concerned that something was amiss if/when your submission sat pending for 10 days? I came so close to resubmitting it several times wondering if it had found its way into a black hole. Had I done that, I’m sure that long clock would have started over again.

That wasn't the biggest issue you stated in your original posting. You were given the answer on that, though. Illustrated stories apparently are put aside for off-line selection consideration and typically take quite a bit longer than nonillustrated stories to be approved. Don't know why, but they are judging by what the posts on this topic have said over time. It quite likely has to do with the need for greater scrutiny on copyright issues that might exist with the illustrations (especially if they are photos).

I have no experience in delay times for illustrated stories as I haven't submitted any. Yes, if my regular stories went ten days without posting or being rejected, I would have asked, by PM to Laurel, about them--after five or six days, because the norm for posting of my stories is two days.

There are only a few authors, it appears, submitting illustrated stories here, so there aren't all that many who could provide knowledgeable advice to you on delays in posting of illustrated stories. In any case, the only one who can give you any definitive response to your specific issue is the sole submissions editor, Laurel, who can only be contacted via Private Message.

Illustrated is like editing a story, in my opinion, in the sense that it's in the back of the line. It gets handled once and a while because there's less.

The priority are the new stories.

Yeah, the biggest frustration was that I asked Laurel via PM last month about this and she was wonderful in her response and provided me with a couple of tips and said she would specifically be the one to do what it was that I was asking for. Unfortunately I believe I may be a victim of timing as I wonder if the site challenges aren’t pulling her in other directions, I haven’t been able to get her to respond this time around.

Took two days for my second story - after I learned to format.

Now, I'd been unsure how to do the html formatting myself so I first submitted the story as a .doc file. It sat in "pending" for five days. During that time I experimented, learned how to put in the em dashes and italics, deleted the .doc file and pasted the formatted version in the online editor. And...two days.

My experience is resubmit goes to the bottom of the queue.

It is also my experience that the writers who have been here a long time with a lot of stories and a known track record have a faster approval process which makes sense. Known and established.

As others have mentioned, the site is hit by a Tsunami of new members from another site going down causing an overload and screwing the votes and scores up.

Good luck with your stories.
