Filmmakers currently use Georgia a lot for lake / woods scenes (cheap to shoot there because...well, Georgia). The state had been selling itself as "reformed" from its past up until 2016, but then all their Deplorables came out of hiding when a Grand Wizard ran for office & won the presidency.

Look at what's happening in Virginia. A progressive majority in the state legislature is passing bills to (among other things) help solidify voting rights rather than eroding them. Georgia isn't there yet, but the elections in November and January showed it's on the horizon.
