NYC Asian woman's broad-daylight attack: 'No 911 calls' made despite onlookers present, police say
Wed, 31 Mar 2021 20:56:51 GMT
The New York Police Department (NYPD) did not receive any 911 calls in connection with the violent broad-daylight attack on an elderly Asian American...

the nyt reported that the security guard in the lobby of the building that this happened in front of simply closed the door.

Apparently the perp was a paranoid schizophrenic, out on parole after murdering his mom.

So he's mentally ill... What's the security guard's excuse?

You haven't met many American security guards, have you?

Yes. And they were all cunts on a power trip. Is it a job requirement over there?

plenty enjoy the power that comes with the job. others are just doing their 8 hours. the employer may have policies about the guard intervening with an off premise activity. i doubt the employer has a policy that prohibits a call to the cops when someone is getting the shit beat out of them.

Many rent-a-cops don't give a flying fart about the rules and sleep through their shift, or deal drugs on site. Others would rather be real cops but got rejected for being too fat, or stupid.

Security guards are usually there for insurance purposes, i.e., fire watch.

Does it matter what they're employed for? They just watched a tiny lady being stomped into the ground repeatedly by a huge man! Maybe you can excuse them being too scared to intervene, or being frozen in shock, but to not offer assistance or comfort afterwards? Since when did a job description stop people being the bare minimum required for human decency and compassion? According to reports, they didn't even call 911.

He was purposefully leaving a vulnerable victim of a violent crime to bleed on the doorstep!

Yes. It matters.

No one wants to get involved in a litigious society.

It's a better you than me world and getting involved could get you fired.

That's a ridiculous excuse.

But not untrue. If you try to help and do the wrong thing, you can be sued. If you step off post to help some one and something happens on post, you can be fired, or sued, or both. Store staff have been fired for trying to stop a theft.

Rent-a-cops are not trained for intervention and use of force. If one goes too far, the business that employed them and the one that contracted them to be on site can be sued.

Academy Sports has just such a policy.

Employees are trained to never interfere with a thief and
they keep the cash safe, unlocked, at the front of the store
to prevent an armed intruder from getting deep into the store.

The employees are to assist in the event of a robbery even.
If the thief asks for help taking the cash to their car,
then the employee carries the cash to the car.

Are they trained not to call 911 for someone seriously injured?

You assume they have access to a phone.

That's not always true. I've done that sort of work before.

In addition, we've all been told many many many times to "not get involved" by the police and our own government. In fact, "getting involved" could get you arrested and prosecuted.

Given all of that, there's no wonder that no one did anything.
