'I've got news for Mitch McConnell — he broke the Senate': Ex-senator kills 'empty threat' from GOP leader

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) took to the floor Tuesday to claim that if Democrats change the filibuster now that they are in charge, it would be a "scorched Earth" move. The problem with the claim, affording to one former senator, is that McConnell is the one who broke the senate to begin with.

Speaking to MSNBC's Brian Williams, former Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) said that McConnell's threats at this point are empty because there's nothing worse that he can do whether in or out of power.

"Well, that's what he's trying to do, but I've got news for Mitch McConnell: he kind of broke the senate," she said. "He's the one that has used the rules in a way they were never intended to be used. And he is done it with gleeful abandon over and over and over again. The senate has become broken. The regular order is gone. There's not debate. There are no amendments. It is just a mere shadow of what it used to be. So, the question is, should you have to stand up and own your obstructionism?"

:)

In contemplating messing around with the Senate rules, the Democrats should just do one thing: Ask themselves what Mitch McConnell would do about that.

Threats like this from the man who insisted there was a sacred rule against Supreme Court appointments in an election year when the opposition would name the new justice, only to go "never mind" when his side stood to benefit from such an appointment, are not to be taken seriously.

Wonder if Mitch and his wife have found a good corruption lawyer yet.

Mr. Merrick grinding his axe?

I think we're much more at risk of him being overly careful not to. The crimes are there--both performed and covered up. Just give them the prosecution they deserve and toss them all in prison without bowing to the political fallout. The nation needs cleansed and it certain doesn't need to be shown that the higher you rose, the less likely you'll be held accountable for what you've done.

So far, it appears that the facts would more readily support the prosecution of Elaine Chao for breaches of her duties as a federal appointment. Strategically therefore, leave McConnell on the back burner for now and go after his wife.

That would leave McConnell in the position where he has to support his wife, but as leader he and his party would have to cop any negative publicity which ensues.

Merrick Garland may have to find a way to step back though, because McConnell would not hesitate for a split second to besmirch his reputation.

Watch this space I guess.
