Outrage Grows Over Aggressive Police Response To Vigil For Sarah Everard—Here's Why

Forbes|47 minutes ago

London police clashed Saturday evening with mourners at a vigil in memory of Sarah Everard, a young woman who went missing earlier this month and was allegedly murdered by a police officer, prompting calls for the head of the London Metropolitan Police ...

So, uh, like what's up here Brits?

A few facts:

1. The UK has the highest rates of death from Covid per 100,000 of the population of any country in the world (apart from those whose governments are lying!).

2. Most of those present were younger people who would not have been vaccinated.

3. Lockdown restrictions still apply. We are NOT allowed to meet anyone outside our household.

4. Those arrested were those who refused to take police advice and maintain a social distance, as most of those present did.

5. The event had the potential to be be a super-spreader occasion which could be disastrous.

So, it's better to beat the crap out of them and create an international incident, emulating Myanmar?

All BB can offer as discussion is abuse. Sad!

Answer my points, BB, or don't you have a brain, just a potty mouth?

Scarcely the same. Those arrested were advised and warned repeatedly. If they want to be assholes, they will be treated as assholes - but NOT shot.

Imagine a US parallel:

A cop tells you off for jaywalking. You do it again. He tells you off again but you continue. What would happen?

Those arrested were breaking the law. They had been told they were breaking the law but they continued to do it. But that law is designed to save lives. Of course, they were arrested.

They were having a vigil for a woman killed by a Copper.

It's seen as Coppers being pissed and retaliating. They should have stayed well clear.

The High Court refused to say the vigil was illegal. They did say the met and the organisers should work it out between them. But, as usual, the met fascists steamed in and acted true to form.

The vigil wasn't illegal and most of it passed off with no problems whatever. But, as usual, there was a minority who would not follow the directions from the police OR the organizers and they spoilt it for everyone.

As usual, the Wiki is short on details, but who's cleaning the Copper's clock? It mentions he's suffered two different head injuries since arrest.

The rumour is, and it is no more than that, that he has been doing it to himself to avoid appearing in court.

For such a high-profile case, his colleagues would be very careful to act cautiously. But if he is sentenced to a jail term? A former copper in jail is a target.

Self inflicted. Official story is that he was alone in his cell at the time. As an ex copper he'd be section 45 anyway.

There have been numerous vigils across the country - I attended one last night. People are not idiots: we've had three months of lockdown and distancing. Everyone wore face masks and were respectful of each other.

There's a solid case for police discretion. Better to let them grieve and stand back. Even Priti Patel asked for an explanation... I can't say I'm impressed because it's become a political embarrassment - she'll do nothing and the major of London is an irrelevant bystander as usual.

No one was holding the police to a fire because it was a deranged copper that's been charged, but fuck - they know how to turn a crowd against them. This will stay in the memory for a while

Perhaps you don't know - but in London there are a group of professional agitators who will turn up at any large gathering for any purpose, determined to antagonize the police. They have been called anarchists, anti-capitalists but they don't care for a label. They just want trouble. Some of them are former football hooligans.

Of course, if there is trouble, it is not the known people who appear in the media. It is the harmless idiots who are aroused by them. Some of those arrested were concerned about women's safety on the streets but the agitators wouldn't care about that. Any excuse will do.

That is why there was trouble in London and not at other vigils throughout the country - to the dismay of the London organizers.

"Look what you made me do!"

A copper like that deserves to be a target.
