Major grocery chain labeling products by race and other demographics of company owner

Giant grocery stores, a major chain in the mid-Atlantic region, is now labelling on the shelves the race, sex, and sexual proclivities of the product's company owner(s). Small tags below the products state whether the product is from a company owned by blacks, Hispanics, Asian American, alphabet people or women.

This is The New America. Or as some call it, hell.

The chain itself is foreign owned, by a Dutch multinational, Ahold Delhaize.

Somehow this apparently has something to do with the George Floyd incident last year. What exactly is anyone's guess, but that's the justification the company is giving.

I've got no problem with this, at all. It harnesses the ability of ordinary people to make social choices through their consumption of consumer products, providing, potentially, much needed support to minority owned and operated businesses.

It's merely an extension of the "Made in America" branding approach, which we already see in many grocery stores where things are labeled "organic", "free range", "cage/cruelty free" and "locally sourced", among the many other sub-labels.

I think people are still going to choose products on standard economics such as cost/quality, but it adds another layer that will make us more conscious of the impacts of small choices. If the cost and quality are comparable, why not choose based on the manufacturer?

LOL - though I do want to see "Ruthless White Capitalist" and "Post-Colonial Exploiter Disguised as Social Responsible Small Batch Manufacturer" (I'm looking at you Ben & Jerry - damn you for making tasty factory ice-cream at a good price point.)
