At the height of the mask wearing I would say from what I see around my town here Lufkin,TX. only 95% of the people complied.

Now that the mandated mask wearing is removed, that has dropped to 80-90 %.
Like myself, many Texans were wearing mask BEFORE the Government recommended it and will continue to wear mask until WE are convinced it is safe to discontinue wearing them as well as other precautions...

The company I work for has extended the mandatory at work and highly suggested away from work that precautions continue through June.

I don't disagree!

What say Ye?

I am with you there a hundred percent.

I think, most people at this point, while long past being sick of all the restrictions, regulations, and cancellations of life over the past year, are really counting on the fact that after everyone is vaccinated (presumably by mid-summer) things can go back to normal and life can slowly resume again. So they are continuing to comply with the mandates for now, hopeful that there is finally some light at the end of the tunnel.

But I think, if after the vaccine roll-out is complete, if the health experts instead say, "Well, yeah but new strains, blah blah blah, everybody crawl back into your foxholes, it's lockdown time again" then it's going to be an increasingly hard sell to get people to comply with the never-ending stream of restrictions and social isolation brought on by all this. Because as I've said before, people are tired. Tired of lockdowns, cancellations, isolation and restrictions. They are complying with it now, only out of hope and belief that this is almost over. If that ends up not being the case, then I suspect it wont just be the usual far-right extremist cranks who will push back against any new mandates, lockdowns and restrictions.

I think what the states that are opening saying is. The american people don't need the government running the citizen's lives... Adults can make the decisions for themselves. Now having said that, we still mask up and probably will for some time...

We are still under partial lockdown
We still have a curfew
We are still under mask mandate.
Nothing has changed up here.

I do wear a mask to go into establishments that require them. I don't wear them when walking outside alone or while I'm driving alone, that's just really, really, stupid.

Although, here in Houston, Tx. there are people who do walk around alone wearing masks. I just shake my head wondering what they have been told by someone.

Also, I asked my doctor about the masks. We were in her office both wear the same type of mask. She said if she had the virus, that there was a 70% that she would pass it on to someone who wasn't wearing one. But the odds went up a little, if the person was wear a mask they had a 40% chance they wouldn't get the virus. Odds really suck.

If am in a crowd, I wear a mask, if I'm alone... what's the point? I certainly don't want to come down with bacterial pneumonia which you can contract by wearing a mask all the time.

I wear a mask when I am out in public. When I go for a morning walk, I do not wear a mask and I do not get close to other people. I do have a small group of people that I do not wear a mask when I am around and they do not wear a mask. With the new variations of the virus, I wonder if we will ever go back to BC {Before Covid} On a positive note, we have not had much of a regular flu season this year.

Man, I'm digging the mask thing. I'm considering making it a part of my permanent fashion ensemble.

What do "masks" do that makes people safe?

I realize there are masks that can block viruses but the majority of masks that people are using do not block viruses. Also, many people have their nose hanging out. The sides of the masks do not fit close enough to the face to stop airflow. If you but a mask on a manikin and pumped green smoke with a pressure equal to normal breathing through the nose and mouth of the manikin you would SEE that green air is escaping along the edges. Also, the opening in most masks are many times greater than the size of the Wuhan Virus. So they really are like a storm door on a submarine. I wear one because I know it makes people feel better but it is mythical to imagine that these masks are somehow able to stop the virus. But, if you believe the masks are helpful then please share the science behind that view.

I am not posting this to be argumentative. I am serious about the question. What do masks actually do that gives protection from the Wuhan Virus?

In Orange County, the main reason to wear a mask is to let others know you're not one of the Trumper morons here who have become the laughing stock of the world, thanks to their asinine protests in Huntington Beach, local Target stores, Costcos, and the like.

It's a visual marker which can somewhat weed out the members of society who are not worth one's time. I plan to keep wearing a mask long after I get the shots, and it will have nothing to do with COVID. :rose:

Masks are helpful along with constant hand sanitizing. Have not had a single cold in my household for over a year.
I do not need to say more.

Stop. Go read a few reputable studies. I think Va Tech may have done one. Trump lost, you can stand down ya Russian bot.

I’m fine with a mask for now when it’s appropriate.

.
Um,.....

Shouldn't it be a clear indication that the crisis, and hence the need for masks, has passed, when deaths, hospitalizations and infections have cratered???

If the numbers plummet and Fluvoxamine or some other therapeutic is found to be effective, the mask will get retired.....until the NEXT time.

Hopefully we will have learned something from THIS time.

Also, if you're still trying to be pseudo-clever with saying "Wuhan Virus" or "Wuhan Flu" or "Kung Flu" instead of calling the virus by its actual name at this point in time, especially when variants and mutations have been popping off Stateside with no help from any other country in the world...

...you're still a xenophobic and racist piece of shit. Get used to that fit.

Here, it just kind of depends on the venue.
Any faculty devoted to healthcare is still on full-mental lockdown.
Most big box retail puts out signs that say its mandatory, but won't turn down a sale.

Other than employees, it is almost nonexistent in the liquor and hardware stores; mainly the elderly.

At the Farm stores, it's even spotty for the employees...

The numbers are very similar (well except for maybe the state of Cuomo)
for places despite the mask policy. The numbers were falling even before
the widespread implementations of vaccines and many of us are hoping
someone loves Science enough to learn the lessons of herd immunity.

But I doubt it. Once you made it political, you went straight to Poly Sci.

And you'll only give up your political beliefs when thy pry them
from you cold, dead Science-hating hands...

:(

If hospital-grade HEPA air filtration units are not capable of removing aerosolized viruses from air handlers, how is a piece of cloth going to do that?

A YEAR later with millions, if not billions of data points available for study, can you point me to actual data from contact tracing showing examples of an asymptomatic individual(s) infecting others in a significant way or an impact of masks as PPE in reduction in infection rates when worn by healthy individuals?

Says right on the box that they do not prevent disease. They are spotty at best for source control a d completely pointless as PPE. Once aerosolized, the virus travels far farther than 6', is spread throught buildings by air handlers including both sides of plexiglass spit shields and are far finer than the dust particles masks are designed to catch 95% of.

This "technology" was tried with the same (non)results in 1918. Worse, in 1918, many died of secondary bacterial infections. Masks exacerbated that

I'm getting tired of wearing my mask, or as I call it now, my disguise.

But at work we have to wear them, we do COVID testing and COVID vaccinations. I have to wear a mask, gloves, and face shield at times.

Outside of work we still have the mask mandate, just over 20% of the state's population have received at least one vaccine shot. I wish I knew what the number needs to be to lose the mask mandate.

I'm predicting a surplus of vaccines come mid-April to early June, because things are really starting to ramp up on supply and availability, more than the public knows.

So I'm hoping to return to near normal by June.

Unless they start new strain scares.

My friend wants the mask mandate over soon, because, as he said, 'It hides the butterfaces.'
