Child mutilation has been going on for centuries. It's just that it primarily only happens to newborn male children. It's called circumsion and if done wrong can lead to a life of skin tears while having sex. Then there is female circumsion where the the female genitalia (clitoris and labia minora) are removed. Then the stumps of the labia are sewn together leaving a small hole for urination.
