“Oath Keepers”, sounds like one of those biker gangs for old white guys with jobs.

Turns out they have the same problems as other online fringe communities... chat is down.

I prefer oat keepers. Always have a pack in the dark part of the cupboard. Although a dry cellar is the ideal.

Many years ago here there were posters that openly supported “ patriot militias”.

Looks like they were successful; now they have fully monitized web sites and are launching actual anarchist/terrorist operations in the USA.

Why is this allowed?

Correction, those organizations are far from being 'anarchist'.

Further, as we have learned over the past year, what constitutes 'terrorism' appears to be in the eyes of the reporter.

Indeed.

What we saw in the NW was pooh-poohed as "peaceful."

Then the same level of peaceful became terrorism when it benefitted their political bias.

I'd call all of it domestic terrorism.

Then again, I'd take all your guns, so we see it differently.

After he takes all my guns,
is he going to stand guard against
the many predators, including bears,
that inhabit my neck of the woods?

I don't think so...

;) ;)

Compliance rate in NZ is estimated to be 7%. Canada is probably higher, somewhere in the neighborhood of 20%..............maybe. You get outside the urban centers and no one gives a flying fuck about what Ottawa says.............including the Mounties.

In other words, those inclined to find firearms abhorrent, still find them abhorrent.

Everyone else has more of a Swiss mindset and will continue to think that way...

Compliance on what?

Rockcasbah's seems to be mentioning taking your guns away, currently Ottawa is not trying to take mine away...

The guns are red herrings.

I am interested in talking more about the Oath Keepers though.

Are they related to those various militia groups people have been talking about here for the past 15-20 years?

As part of the non-american majority on Lit, the Oath Keepers, much like the Jan 6 invaders, look like old fat white guys of the same ilk as wannabe biker gang types.

I think they're a joke, a disgrace to the USA and more dangerous for the instability they create as opposed to any real ability to go to war against anyone.

Wondering what the Americans here think about them.

I agree, and I fail to see any value they bring to the US, except to build up the feeling of self worth in the racist's.

What I find curious is we have here an organization whose members are primarily military, law enforcement, first responders, etc., in other words government employees who have sworn an oath to uphold and defend the constitution and the politicians and the press see them as a threat to the government.

I find the disconnect fascinating, don't you?

I agree, but at the same time, half of all Americans would disagree with us.

And they all have guns, so I'm trying to be polite.

Words and actions must be one in the same if someone wants to be perceived as honest, trustworthy, etc.

I read the Oath Keepers Code of Conduct, terms of service, etc....and it's filled with Inclusive Democratic Party talking points.

Their User Name requirements alone are hilarious...Butters would love it there, you can't even refer to excrement in your user name there.

Yet I'm pretty sure I heard some of them say "shit" on January 6th.

So yeah....gigantic disconnent.

Would love to understand it, because from here they're just a bunch of fucking nutters.

A lot like the New Black Panthers?

Never a movement to resort to violence or intimidation...

None of it rises to the level of terrorism as much as dedicated opposition.
To what, I have no idea. As a minority, this country has been very good to me
and the only exposure I ever get to these groups is from the highly partisan Left here at Lit
who absolutely have to have windmills to tilt at to demonstrate their noble intention
(and I suspect to bolster their flagging sense of self worth in a world that
doesn't value them as much as they value themselves and their "opinions").

Amid the usual Itchy & Scratchy trading of high-grade vintage insults, I read some of the Wiki entry on the OK's and they were involved in that Bundy ranch nonsense, so they've been around looking for a fight for about as long as you guys have been predicting their rise.

Any of you Members?

In Canada, 13 groups have recently been designated as terrorist organizations. I think the full list is something like 71.

The full list of 13 new terrorist entities:

Atomwaffen Division
The Base
The Proud Boys
Russian Imperial Movement
Three Al-Qaeda affiliates: Jama'at Nusrat Al-Islam Wal-Muslimin, Front de Libération du Macina, and Ansar Dine
Five ISIS affiliates: Islamic State West Africa Province, Islamic State in the Greater Sahara, Islamic State in Libya, Islamic State East Asia, and Islamic State - Bangladesh
Hizbul Mujahideen

I am a terrorist.
I freely express ideas that are
anathema to the beautiful people
and sends shivers of fear through them.

I share a hostility towards government that has a commonality with all that they fear.

It would a total failure!

But I'd like to try a world without violence.

Talk to Iran. And the muslim brotherhood. And the Shiites/Sunnis. And Hezbolla. And...

Well, you get the idea. Hopefully anyway.

The thing you, and the rest of the gun-phobics don't get, is that guns aren't the problem. THE problem are the people who use guns/bombs/knives/force to hurt other people. Until you can outlaw THEM, the rest of us need guns to protect ourselves from the very people YOU let roam the world freely to prey on everyone else.

Solve "the problem" instead of preventing the rest of us from living without fear. It's not the guns, it's you.

How does an "anti-government" organization like Oath Keepers justify defending the Government of Trump?
