I'm torn somewhat. The people there voted for the people that are most responsible for this mess. SOME of them did. But a lot did not and are victims of the GOP.

I feel bad for the innocent citizens caught up in it. Not only are they suffering now, but they'll be paying the costs for some time to come.

We all KNOW for certain that the politicians and corporate raiders will NOT be held accountable in any meaningful way. Nothing will be coming out of their pockets.

Will the next election cycle make any difference?

Innocent??

LOL you act as if these people are forced to live there and vote for the government and support the companies that they did.

State’s rights!

Texas maintained their freedom to fuck over their own people and infrastructure when they avoided federal regulation by making their own Texas-only electrical utility. They exercised their freedom to ignore FERC recommendations to harden their grid against extreme cold after the same weather conditions caused the same problems a decade ago.

Fuck those feds. Texas can fuck it’s own people, but wait... they will take federal disaster help.

Meanwhile Texas Senator Ted Cruise has the right idea for how to handle things - a family vacation to Cancun.

Creeping Charlie once again removes all doubt that it is a fool.

The irritating weed posits that because people can't just up and move when a majority of morons in their state votes corrupt, incompetent people into office who fail epically to oversee a key part of the infrastructure, that they deserve the ill effects of those epic failures.

Potted plants are really dumb.

Two posts so far, neither on topic.

Sorry, what can you say? It’s sad that the politics get in the way of doing what’s right for the people. Money and profit come first while poor and elderly are treated as a hassle and accused of being irresponsible.

Being in severe cold is painful... until you go numb. A true and sad tragedy. The fact that it was forseeable and preventable makes it even worse.

Truly- fuck those who chose profits over public safety. They are probably fine with their backup generators while fixed income retirees are literally freezing to death. May everyone get the reward they deserve.

To answer your question; probably not.

After Texas goes cowboy hat in hand to FEMA and gets ANOTHER massive bailout, they will pivot 180 degrees, double down on voting republican, declare their independence, and vote to secede.

I fear the majority of Texans are FGB / BoBo level stupid.

*shrugs*

There a lot of cold, wet angry people here in Houston...I'm one of them. I've had very spotty power until last night all week. The house has been cold and I'm having a burst water main replaced on Saturday.

Apartment complexes are pro-actively cutting off water to avoid burst pipes and opening up swimming pools so people can fill jugs full of water to flush their toilets.

43% of Houston lost electricity for 24 hours or more...that's almost a million people right there.

Clueless Rick Perry claimed (without basis in fact) that Texans are willing to endure hardship like this periodically if it keeps the Federal Government out of Texas' business.

He's 100% wrong.

Laz is going to try and pretend they didn't know Texas was a red state run almost entirely by Republicans for the last 60 fuckin' years. :D

Yes Laz...people who either moved there without researching it or didn't get the fuck out when they realized Texas isn't California?? Deserve exactly what they get.

Yet the observable reality says, he's right!! :D

It’s time to implement the Jade Helm 15 plans and open up the FEMA camps.

I'm torn somewhat.

To respond to your question, I know what it is like to live in a state that has long been controlled by greedy and tight-assed Republicans (Arizona).

Gradually, the electorate is changing, but not quick enough. The state houses are still controlled by morons who are trashing the entire state for a quick buck. The formerly beautiful state is becoming one giant strip mall filled with corporate chain stores, and water resources are being raided at an unsustainable rate.

Activists spend a lot of time getting out the vote, but the change is coming slowly to a state long poisoned with the politics of greed.

Venezuela would love to have you!! :D

I have empathy for anyone in a difficult situation.

My heart hours out to them. The utility infrastructure in this nation is so antiquated and in disrepair that we are all just one good storm away from being in a similar position.

It is the wake up all they all need.

And if they don't wake up this time they will get another one come summer when the heat hits 120 degrees.

I'll be sympathetic when the recall petition succeeds on that lying fuckface Abbot. They can have another election if they want.

Trump and McConnell should not have given trillions away from the treasury to the billionaires and instead have passed an Infrastructure plan.

- a family vacation to Cancun.

I'm not sure he took his family. I haven't seen photos of him there with anyone. It might be even worse than it's being depicted--he might have gone for the warmth himself and left his family in the refrigerator.
