Legendary keyboardist Chick Corea dead at 79

I was hoping that someone would do a tribute thread to Chick so that I didn't have to.

I got to see Return to Forever in an intimate setting. Wow!

He was a cultist.

I liked his music until I discovered that.

I luckily got to see Chick and Garry Burton do a duet gig. They were amazing.

Did that change his music?

Yeah, I don't get that. An artist is a human being subject to any of the foibles humans have. The art is separate and apart from the vessel.

It hard to do that sometimes, but religion isn't one that will do it for me.

I passed up a chance to see Return To Forever at the Great Southeastern Music Hall..."I'll just see them the next time they're in town..." Never did.

Seriously? Did not know that.

Ah the irony of one of the board's most intolerant shitbags preaching tolerance. :D

"In 1968, Corea read Dianetics, science fiction author L. Ron Hubbard's most well known self-help book. Further, Corea developed an interest in Hubbard's science fiction novels in the early 1970s.

I came into contact with L. Ron Hubbard's material in 1968 with Dianetics and it kind of opened my mind up and it got me into seeing that my potential for communication was a lot greater than I thought it was.[24]

Corea said that Scientology became a profound influence on his musical direction in the early 1970s: "I no longer wanted to satisfy myself. I really want to connect with the world and make my music mean something to people."
