Bipartisan

Typically the word "bipartisan" is defined as involving cooperation and negotiation between members of two parties.

For instance, a bipartisan commission would involve cooperation, agreement, and compromise between two major political parties.

Often, compromises are called bipartisan if they reconcile the desires of both parties from an original version of legislation or other proposal.

However, when Republicans use the word “bipartisan” they mean something totally different.

Republicans didn’t cooperate or compromise during the six years when they held a Senate majority.

Quite the opposite.

Mitch McConnell blocked former President Obama’s agenda and judicial nominees, and for the past two McConnell blocked almost all bills passed by the Democratic majority in the U.S. House—including legislation to address the COVID-19 pandemic.

He bragged about the "graveyard" on his desk where bills went to die.

Republicans regularly passed legislation without a single Democratic vote, including when they gave away trillions of dollars of tax cuts to the one percent and big corporations in 2017. Now that we want to invest trillions of dollars in struggling people and families instead, the Republicans have their panties in a bunch.

Republicans in office have been morally bankrupt throughout the pandemic, needlessly contributing to the deaths of over 450,000 residents of this country. Most congressional Republicans sided with Trump and against the American people last month by voting to overturn the results of our November 2020 presidential election. Fortunately, they did not succeed.

Now they’re telling Democrats and the American people to “get over” January 6th’s attack on our lives and our democracy, to “move on” and not hold them or Trump accountable for a deadly attempted coup where Trump’s violent supporters killed people and came close to kidnapping and assassinating elected officials like Nancy Pelosi and Alexandria Ocasio Cortez.

Now, the very same congressional Republicans who’ve threatened Democrats’ lives, incited an attack on our Capitol, and tore this country apart are fighting new Capitol building security measures like metal detectors, boasting about bringing guns to Congress, and failing to wear masks around us.

They don’t get to talk about “healing and unity” in their attempt to escape accountability.

While the vast majority of Americans want to see Donald Trump held accountable for his actions, the Republicans want Trump to get off Scott Free. While the vast majority of Americans want a large stimulus bill to help Americans who are suffering and to help jump-start a stalled economy, the Republicans are opposed to doing anything that will help the American people. While the vast majority of the American People favor facemask mandates and social distancing to limit spread of a deadly virus, Republicans refuse to wear masks and try to equate going maskless in public is somehow an expression of “freedom”.

When the Republicans call for “bipartisanship,” they mean they want to continue to fail to serve the American people, and they want the Democrats to back off so nobody can hold the Republican Party accountable.

Yep, Republicans requesting bipartisanship without taking the first twelve steps in that direction after the experience of the last decade and a half deserve nothing more than a hearty horselaugh.

Refusing to wear a mask during a deadly pandemic is like refusing to wash your hands after visiting the restroom. That's not freedom. That's just selfish and nasty.

When Republicans are in power, they're all like, "Fuck bipartisanship! Fuck power sharing! Fuck cooperation! Fuck compromise! We don't so any of that sissy, liberal, hand-holding, democracy stuff! We don't give a shit about your opinions! Everything will be done our way!"

But, when they lose elections and become the minority party, they're suddenly all like, "Where's the bipartisanship? You need to share power with the minority party! Why won't you play nice?"

Mirror opposites of the Democrats!!

Hopefully the (R)'s grow a spine and take the (D)'s to task.

As soon as they take power, they need to spend it impeaching just because they can.

Thanks, but no thanks, for once again offering your North Korean authoritarian perspective on two American political parties.

But more good news: your nursing home will hold a Trump in 2024 rally for you and the others in the MAGAt wing of the brain injury hospital today. Wear your red hat, and play your metal music at full volume!

And more lime jello after the festivities!

Lol. Oh, you think that there was no legitimate reason for the Ds to call for the impeachment of Trump?

How cute.

Gee? How many impeachment’s have there been?

Previously who was behind impeachments?

Hmm? First two were Republican driven

Last two were because Trump is a fucking idiot !!

Why weren’t they upheld? Because the Republicans were partisan
as always happens apparently.

Clinton had to testify

Trump? Fuck no!! He would lie!!
It’s a trap! How dare you
Go read Lindsay Graham’s thoughts back in the 90’s

He WILL be tried for alllllll the other shit soon enough

Storming the Capitol?? Just a new last ditch political effort for anyone to use in the future ? Apparently that’s the Retrumplikan’s hope!!

Not hooligans.., democracy!! “We don’t fear democracy”

Nope.....they did it because they needed to drum up hype among the useful idiots. :)

They're still trying to get as much mileage out of it as possible.

Guy is gone and they're still trying to impeach him....instead of doing all that "good for the world" shit they've been talking about for 4 years.

Democrat bipartisanship = you must agree with us to be bipartisan or you're a nazis.

Democrat bipartisanship = you must agree with us to be bipartisan or you're a nazis.

Prior Republican bipartisanship = you must agree with us on doing nothing but feeding the superrich or you're a Maoist (regardless of how long that concept has been dead).

"And Russia, if you're listening..." Trump- 2016 ;)

I think that maybe we should be doing things like establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity - you know, that "good for the world" shit.

The trolls on this board would call that "libtard propaganda".

Yes, government not getting in the way of free commerce and instead trying force socail and economic equity is somewhat Maoist....the "progressvie" need to purge our society of old ideas, customs, habits and culture? Makes them Maoist.

The concept isn't dead, it's apparent and in your face.

Regarding Trump's impeachments:

"And Russia, if you're listening..." Trump- 2016 ;)

And?? How is that an impeachable offence??

I think that maybe we should be doing things like establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity - you know, that "good for the world" shit.

And you do that by shit canning the blessings of liberty, miscarrying justice and letting BLM riot at will??

LOL

The trolls on this board would call that "libtard propaganda".

Nope, just good ol' liberalism proper.

Anti-"progress" if you will. :D no wonder the left can't stand it.

And?? How is that an impeachable offence??

You know that soliciting foreign help in an election is illegal, right? Maybe you don't. It doesn't fit with your pro-Trump agenda. Now you're probably going try to say you aren't pro-Trump while yoj use his talking points, aren't you? ;)

And you do that by shit canning the blessings of liberty, miscarrying justice and letting BLM riot at will??

There are lots of blessings of liberty, some of which include fair treatment under the law. What did Trump or the GOP do to address the concerns of BLM back in 2016-2017 before the riots really got out of hand? See the 'graveyard' on Mitch's desk. See Trump's response to the peaceful protest of Tami g a knee by NFL players.

Miscarrying justice, like the Muller report and Bill Barr's misrepresentation of the contents? Yeah. Check on that perspective again in a few years after the GOPTQ-anon dies off a bit. Facts matter, especially to history.

That's not what he was doing. :)

Put the quote into context and try again.

Equal....'fair' is a subjective term with little meaning.

Which we already have. Thank you 14A.

What did Trump or the GOP do to address the concerns of BLM back in 2016-2017 before the riots really got out of hand?

Nothing...probably for the same reason the Obama admin did nothing. It's not their problem, local policing isn't a federal issue.

If BLM as beef with a PD they can take it up with their city council.

Learn what the USA is and how it works.

See the 'graveyard' on Mitch's desk.

Defense of liberty....thanks Mitch!

See Trump's response to the peaceful protest of Tami g a knee by NFL players.

Irrelevant fee fees rage...Colin K asshurt isn't a federal issue either.

LOL Muller got to tell his own tale...and it wasn't any better.

Ya'll had nothing, get over it.

Facts matter, especially to history.

You don't really study history that much then because facts rarely matter to history. :) perspective of the writer is everything.

He said it at a campaign rally.

Unarmed blacks being killed by police is not very subjective.

See Mitch's graveyard.

Learn what the USA is and how it works.

Except when local police don't police themselves.

See how the FBI got involved in the murders of Chaney, Goodman, and Schwerner back in Mississippi in 1964.

They FBI could be called to take over local police departments that have problems. Precedence baby.

Irrelevant fee fees rage...Colin K asshurt isn't a federal issue either.

Until BLM protests turned into rage and riots. A constructive response from the white house and Senate could have gone a long way to help the situation but they did nothing. How did the GOP address the issue?

Muller has already come out and said that his investigation was stymied by obstruction. You probably missed that because the Senate refused to hear testimony and you didn't read his report or pay attention.

Partisanship is great when it supports your side, huh? Too bad you're in the minority now.

Don't cry.

So?? It still wasn't a call to interfere in the election.

Unarmed blacks being killed by police is not very subjective.

Never said it was, nice race baiting though!! Keep that BLM bigotry going strong!!!

See Mitch's graveyard.

Obama as the Chief LEO never needed Mitche's approval to do something.

But there was no specific target and the feds didn't have jurisdiction...there was nothing for him to do. Same as Trump.

Except when local police don't police themselves.

See how the FBI got involved in the murders of Chaney, Goodman, and Schwerner back in Mississippi in 1964.

Yes ....if they have a case or are requested by the state, but they don't and the states didn't. It's just not that kind of a problem, the "White people get to sport hunt black people for fun with total impunity!!! USA IS SOOOOOO RACIST!!!" narrative the left is in love with??

Total bullshit.

Until BLM protests turned into rage and riots. A constructive response from the white house and Senate could have gone a long way to help the situation but they did nothing. How did the GOP address the issue?

I disagree, there was NOTHING the senate or WH could have done. Because Orange Man and white people are BAD!!!

How did they address it? Appropriately....by telling them to take it up with all the "progressives" running their city and PD. Man did that ever send them and the Democrats into a furious fuckin' rage too......

We know why :)

Muller has already come out and said that his investigation was stymied by obstruction. You probably missed that because the Senate refused to hear testimony and you didn't read his report or pay attention.

LOL another lame claim and another "no shit sherlock" outcome of totally partisan hack impeachment.

Partisanship is great when it supports your side, huh? Too bad you're in the minority now.

Don't cry.

LOL....cry? Nice projection there.

Not in the minority enough, any important shit is going to require 60 votes that you don't have.

Aw, you're slipping. That last post and all of the points you tried to make in it was the worst I've seen from you.

The dems have several opportunities to pass their agenda with only a majority vote, but you already know that don't you?

The dems have learned that the GOPTQ-anon negotiates in bad faith. They will not slow their process this time around. You must be praying that they don't get any traction, it would be a disaster for you if they did anything to help Americans and got more support from voters.

Go have lunch or something.

When Republicans are in power they're bullies, they shamelessly abuse their power and piss all over refugees, minorities, immigrants and the American working class.

When they're no longer in power, they play the victim, and they whine a lot.

Tell them assholes called Democrats to go Fuck themselves.

They don't need us, REMEMBER?

Now come 2023...:D
