My brother gave me a laptop/touchscreen. it has a small keyboard. Typing is a nightmare. it seems to not type some characters, randomly. Also, the cursor will skip back to a previous sentence or paragraph. I constantly have to correct things. i am typing now with one finger, being careful not to touch anything but the keys. I made at least a dozen errors. I'm a touch typist. Help!

It should get easier with practice. If it doesn't, get yourself a traditional larger keyboard - you should be able to Bluetooth the devices together.

Hmmm... is the keyboard on the screen? If it is, then what you have is a tablet. If it's not, then you have to keep your thumb off the mouse pad.

If it's a tablet, then I would suggest getting a touch screen stylus.

These are from Amazon, but you can pick up the same things at Walmart or any other retailer.

They will also keep your screen from getting all smudged and greasy with finger prints.

This sounds like you use the touch pad accidentally too. Mostly they can be turned off temporarily.

My 2 cents...

Mini keyboards aren't really designed for touch-typists. If you don't mind the extra bulk, I'd second the advice to buy a good external keyboard and mouse. Otherwise you may have to live like the hunt-and-peckers.

Thanks. Next computer will be a desktop for sure.

Thanks. I do have a mouse.

Investing in an external keyboard and/or mouse will be the best for you.
Believe me, most laptop keyboards suck; poor layouts, narrowly spaced keys, no key feeling...the list goes on & on. Very rare ones have good keyboards.

I hardly ever use my laptop's keyboard since I always attach a good external mouse & keyboard with it.

I think that the best option for you too. :)
