I'm a middle-aged white guy who has dated black women. It was an eye-opening experience, to say the least. While I have tackled female Asian characters in my stories (I also dated several Asian women) I am not comfortable or presumptuous enough to tackle a black female character. On the face of it, she should be as easy (or difficult) to write as an Asian, or white one. However, being black in America is a very difficult mindset for someone of my background to write authentically. There are topics when dating black women such as hair, that NEVER occur to you before dating one. You have to be aware of so many things until you are completely comfortable with each other. Intimacy opens up a host of other issues. Dealing with society at large puts you in a peculiar place. We got the same stares from white folks that we got from black folks. Some black men take it as a personal affront when a white guy dates one of "their" women. To them, it is too reminiscent of a "master" and "slave" relationship from the bad old days. You both have to have a sense of humor and tough skin to make the relationship work. Black women are goddesses and should be treated accordingly. I, a mere mortal, am inadequate to tell their tale.
