Single-shot COVID vaccine to get approval; thank you, Biden!

Yup, *Biden worked fast:)

Meanwhile how many has he killed the past week?

The UK is about to approve another vaccine that has proved effective for both the new UK variant and the South African one.

Bad idea. Only 68% efficiency. Whereas two doses is near 98%. People need to stop looking at this as a "disease" and focus on probabilities...how do you prevent the health care system from being overloaded?

This particular vaccine has a decent efficacy against severe cases with one dose. So, one would think...this is good. Here is why it isn't. This vaccine is less efficient to the newer strains. And right now...those are what we need to be concerned with. The evidence is coming back that some of these new strains are infecting people that already had covid. That means...the existing antibodies are not enough. If two doses allows us to fight off these strains better...then that is the path to take. If two doses are no different than one...well then it doesn't matter and one dose will do. We just don't have that evidence. Error on the side that maximizes probabilities.

One could argue the more immediate need is to get the hospitals clear.

The J&J vaccine supposedly can help do that. You take it, almost 100% likelihood you won't have to go there.

A good stop-gap solution in the wake of mRNA vaccine shortages. But yes, we need the good shit too.

I get it. My concern is more about the new strains and our inability to track them. These strains have the potential to negate any gains. I think this particular vaccine will be good for 3rd World countries that can't afford the more expensive vaccines. The US should buy and donate these to those countries.

Yes, we need the good shit, as well as the upgrade boosters for the good shit, because most of the world (especially the U.S.) dicked around with the myth that COVID was an overblown hoax, which opened up a much greater probability of allowing treatment-resistant mutations to develop.

Remember Dr. Coronager's predictions about how the whole thing would disappear through natural herd immunity by the election last Fall? Remember ProudBoBo's total dismissal of epidemiological science and his bragging about going to holiday gatherings? Remember all the crap about how masks and social distancing were a waste of effort? These anti-science shitheads on Lit are just a small microcosm of a much greater pandemic of stupidity and arrogance.

With that level of stupidity and arrogance running rampant, it's no wonder that New Zealand locked its borders.

Note the variants all took root in America under ‘rump as well

Australia is clear?
New Zealand? Long ago
How?? Better science, less susceptible
Or
SNARTER!??

Less likely to see their governments as evil.
