Submitting Multi-Chapter Edits Question

Nearly a year ago I started writing a multi-part story that transitioned from a seven chapter short story to what is now a sixteen chapter novel. The first ten chapters were submitted some time ago but I realized I needed to finish the story before I posted any more chapters. With the work nearly complete I have submitted the edits for the first ten chapters. These were not just cosmetic changes as there were plot as well as many dialogue improvements as well.

I submitted them on the 18th and they still show as pending. Is nine days normal for edits to existing works?

Second question. If I edit a pending submission does it get retracted so I can then resubmit it? I seem to remember reading that once something is submitted you should't re-edit it. Any info advice would be appreciated.

Even trying to preview a pending submission will turn it into a draft and force you to resubmit.

My latest submission has been in pending for four days now, which seems oddly long to me, so maybe she's taking things slowly for whatever reason. *shrug*

Thanks for replying AlinaX. I have been following you for a while even though I haven't had a chance to read as much as I want.

I'll resubmit one chapter I found a major problem in and see what happens. Hopefully it won't be over a week as well.

My last edit took over two weeks to happen. The original took ten days to be published, readers spotted a glaring error. I submitted the edit with correction and it was another two weeks. The story before that was a six day wait for publication so I assume that’s pretty standard

Yes and yes. If you're doing a block edit like you are, patience is your best virtue, and don't touch resubmissions once you've sent them in. Each time you withdraw something it goes to the end of the processing queue.

I do hope you have your chapter numbering right. You need Chapter 01, Chapter 02, etc. if you have more than nine chapters, which you do, or the numbering will go wrong. It's an alpha-numerical sort algorithm that does the chaptering, where 1, 10, 11, 12, 13 come before 2.

That's one thing I did right. After I had finished work on the first seven chapters and was about to begin submitting I started toying with the idea of a long story. Probably not my best idea since this was my first work here. But hey! I'm a glutton for punishment. Chapter 01, 02...etc.

So my gut feeling is right. The first nine will publish soon hopefully and the re-edited chapter 10 will wait longer.

I'm not fussed though. The more time I have the better the 'climax' will be!
