Guy Fawkes was an insurrectionist involved in the failed Gunpowder Plot of 1605. His treason is remembered every November 5th with bonfires, fireworks and burning effigies. He is recognized in recent years as the face of Anonymous.

On January 6, 2021, insurrectionists attacked the US Capitol Building in a failed attempt to assassinate elected officials of the highest ranks. How shall the day be remembered?

Melania Trump said, “I am disappointed and disheartened with what happened last week.”

I propose that January 6th shall henceforth be known as Disappointment Day.

Observances may include:
Taking a selfie with a Confederate statue
Burning homemade napalm
Dressing up like a bison
Flagpole fights
Wearing a red cap

Perhaps they could be treated like Guido Fawkes?

Stretched on the rack and then hung, drawn and quartered.

He wasn’t actually hung. He fell off the gallows and broke his neck. They still quartered him.

The executioener was ashamed. You were supposed to survive the hanging and drawing and only die when being quartered.

He was also sentenced to having his genitals cut off and burnt in his sight. Those Protestants were inventive back then.

They wanted to deter others, because the plot very nearly succeeded.

Being at risk of having your balls burnt in front of of you might have been thought to be a realistic deterrent.

It wasn't. That wasn't the last Popish plot but the one closest to success.

What oppression are they going through?

I'm dead serious.

Pissed because this is no longer the past when certain people were treated like lap dogs and servants, didn't have viable opportunities for full advancement?

They act like they are suffering.

The reason Guy Fawkes is celebrated while last week's insurrection will be condemned:

There is a huge critical, difference between fighting to topple an oppressive, unjust regime, and fighting to install one.

"Guy Fawkes?" A better analogy would be ISIS, or Iran's Revolutionary Guard: Fighting to replace one unjust, oppressive government (in this cases, Bashir ASsad and/or Reza Pahavi) with...an even more unjust, and far more oppressive one.
