Narrator spots the obit of the older woman who taught him all about sex when he was a naïve 18 year old. Most of the story is a flashback on the experience, but then he decides to pay it forward, and seduces the neighbourhood "ugly duckling".

Could also have a version where the narrator is female of course.

Or the narrator could also be "up in age" and it is a first time reminiscence about two people the same age exploring together

Going to the funeral the man is struck by the beauty of the woman's daughter who looks just like her all those years ago. But how does he explain to her how he knows her mother when she asks at the reception? He fumbles and hums and haws, not having a prepared answer when she says "I think I know. Are you David?" He looks shocked as he was sure the woman had kept her affair with him secret from he family...

Do they meet up and start their own affair/relationship?
Perhaps he was her babysitter when she was quite young, which is how he met the woman to begin with?
Perhaps she shares with him her mother's journal that she now has and has read that tells through her eyes about the affair?

They definitely start an affair. but what happens after they (or is it just she?) learn that he is in fact her bio Dad?

That could be a marvelous story! Lots of paths to explore.

So, many paths. I took one with a story called Remembrances where the husband finds nude picture of his wife when she was oh so much younger on the internet taken by a young man when she was just 18 (of course).

You can read about it here... Remembrances There are three parts there, I haven't quite finished the last part yet but I am working on it.

I have to warn you, it is not just a story about finding an old love, it is in Loving Wives. ;)

I like that twist! But how do they find out?

Maybe once they ignite their affair, one lazy Sunday afternoon after an intense love making session, sipping coffee she shares with him more of her mom's dairies. They go back to the period when he and the mother were having an affair and start reading together - she makes an off-the-cuff remark about how it was just before she was born. Then they read her mother's words - "I don't know what to do, I'm pregnant, and I haven't had sex with Joe [her husband] in months. I know it is David's, but how do I make Joe believe it will be his child?"

Or she needs a blood test, and her type doesn't match joe's. David confesses... test confirms

This could work for something I've been trying to figure out.

Care home setting where someone is reading the obituaries and spots a name and starts to get a little teary. Young nurse is just tending to his medicines when she spots this and asks what wrong. Gent explains about the obituary and say he's not sure why he's upset and should just remember all the good times they had.

Maybe they split up and married others.

He reminisces with the nurse who gets him to go into some detail.

Lots of possible ways it could go from here, maybe nurse try's to spice up her own relationship with some of the things they talk about. Perhaps boyfriend is curious to know where this change in her came from, perhaps he convinces her to repay the favour?

of course I think the nurse ought to provide the Old Gent with a happy ending.

Yes, and of course she's his daughter. Incest ensues. I'll have to keep this in mind for a future story.

A darker flip of the "read in the obits" trope: A young woman reads that her male 'mentor' X has died, a guy who promoted and abused her. She goes to the funeral, intending to find the grave's location so she can return to piss on it. But at the funeral she meets a slew of other young people, all genders, also mentored and abused by X. Group sex ensues, with complications.

...or she meets the widow, who has also returned to piss on the grave, lesbian sex ensues, hilarity replaces the anger. they move in together, live happily ever after.

There is nothing about this thread that I don't love. How do we go about asking for permission to use it as a theme for a story?

You don't need permission. Unless explicitly stated otherwise, story ideas posted here are generally considered up for grabs. People post them in the hopes that someone will like the idea and run with it. Go for it!

But it is considered good form to come back to the thread and post a link when your story goes online. Sort of "closes the loop" as it were, and makes everyone feel good.

Thank you so much! I will do that, assuming I ever get through it.

Also, as a newbie here, I noticed in your work, there's a series broken down into parts, all nicely grouped together. This story will require parts. How do you get that while submitting? Is that something the moderators will do? Is there something I need to add when I submit? I just sent my first story through for consideration this afternoon and I wasn't paying very close attention to series details at the time.

Thanks again!

You need to name your chapters sequentially, e.g.:

HappySexyTime Adventures Ch. 01
HappySexyTime Adventures Ch. 02
HappySexyTime Adventures Ch. 03
...

and then the site will automatically recognise them as a series and group them (or should, it's not 100% reliable).

You can omit the "Ch. 01" on your first chapter. If you're absolutely sure you won't go to more than nine chapters, you can skip the leading zeroes, but if you think you might go to ten or more, you want to include it, because "Ch. 10" sorts above "Ch. 2".

I think "Chapter", "Part", and "Pt." all work too, but I've stuck with "Ch." myself.

Permission is not needed, but I've always thanked the LITsters whose ideas I snatched. As with editors and beta readers, SI contributors need to be called out for praise.

That's why I thought it safest to ask. I didn't want to make a mistake that's common knowledge, but not a formal rule.

Thanks for the additional information!

I started the thread, and start more threads than anybody else, precisely because I have an abundance of ideas that I hope will find good homes.

As noted by Carney, occasionally I have an idea I am thinking about writing myself that I want to workshop here, and typically label those accordingly, but otherwise, "free to a good home" applies.

Even if someone takes an idea I workshop, the more the merrier...

(on the other hand, I am serious about copyright in the worlds I invent once I post a story).

for future reference, queries such as this are better suited for the Author's Hangout, which is about the technical aspects of writing (among other things). This forum is about Story Ideas. Over at the AH you will find a friendly group who are very supportive.

Thank you! For both answers!
