For baseball fans, especially old school baseball fans its a sad day. Phil Niekro, Mr. Knuckleall himself has passed away at 81 from cancer

318 wins, 5404 innings pitched 5 gold gloves 5 all star appearances, and even better he won the Roberto Clemente award and two other awards for his humanitarian work.

His brother Joe(RIP 2006) was pretty good two, and the record they set for combined wins by siblings will most likely never be broken

After Phil Niekro retired, he bought a magnificent piece of lakefront property up on Lake Lanier in Georgia. He built a large two story mansion into a side of a hill....it was right next to a property owned by my best friend's Dad (which wasn't nearly as nice of course). They shared a common dock area.

My friend told me, yeah, he's been out on the lake fishing with Knucksie more than a few times, and actually had Niekro show him how to throw a knuckleball.

I called bullshit on him, and we bet the amount of our next bar tab that he could throw a knuckler...well, son of a bitch, he could! Throwing all sorts of dipsy, dropping, swerving knuckleballs. I can see now how hitters used to have such trouble against Niekro.
