Is this normal? (Not "am I normal," that question is too easy.)

I'm new so please forgive the "stupid" question. I submitted a story yesterday, and it said it would be "published when approved" as an acknowledgment. I'm not impatiently wanting "instant anything" but rather wondering if I did something wrong as today it says: "Looks like you don’t have any Pending Stories on Literotica yet."

As a new writer, you can expect approval to take at least three days, then the date on your pending story will change from the date it was submitted to the date it will be published (usually, the next day).

I don't know why the page would say one story is pending, then not list the story and say that you don't have anything pending. It's possible that the page has simply not completely updated yet.

As a new writer, you can expect approval to take at least three days, then the date on your pending story will change from the date it was submitted to the date it will be published (usually, the next day).

I don't know why the page would say one story is pending, then not list the story and say that you don't have anything pending. It's possible that the page has simply not completely updated yet.

You need to click on "Pending" to see the pending story, as the default page is the published story page, which understandably, is empty.

I seem to remember that when I was new, it took a lot longer than three days to get a story approved - more like seven or eight at least. I guess Laurel really looked at them carefully. I don't know if the site policy has changed since then - that was close to three years ago. Anyway, after maybe the tenth submission, the process speeded up considerably.

Yes, sometimes even us established authors have it take a while, if there is a contest running, which will have precedence over all other stories. The FAQ, I believe says 2 days, but for new authors add 2 more days. If after a week it's not there, then start to worry.

On the works page, there are three tabs that don't look like tabs, My Stories, My Poems, My Artwork. Under the My Stories tab are 4 tabs, Published , Drafts, Pending, Sent Back. They would look something like this...

Aren't you from down under? Then you know that up on the top of the world, it takes longer for her to vet your stories as she has had to learn how to read the upside-down text.

When I was in Bolivia I found that if I turned the laptop upside down I could write right side up (although my forearms got in the way of the screen).

I'm not complaining about anything, I was just confused because there were pieces of information being delivered that directly contradicted each other.

Has that problem been corrected? Make sure your story isn't really still in Drafts.

Thank you, nope it's still in Pending (no date) and the submissions page is still displaying a: "Looks like you don’t have any Pending Stories on Literotica yet," message.

The My Stories tab will display that until the pending story goes live. Once it does it will never say that again.

It starts with boilerplate recognizing my effort and regretting how the policy affects my story, and that it is a business decision, not a judgment based on the quality of the work but: "we don’t accept stories that specifically identify people, places, or businesses by name or that could be reasonably construed to identify specific people, places, or businesses." (my bold)

I think the disclaimer explains the issue pretty well ...

The following is a work of fiction, not a biography. The events described did not happen to the author or anyone else she, any collaborators, or beta readers know. The setting is a fictional winery in a unique place that no longer exists, a collateral casualty of the events of 09-11-01. Except for Pelee Island all of the islands mentioned were part of Colonel Blanchard’s original land grant confirmed by the treaty of Ghent.

They were ‘traded’ to Canada (Great Britain) in 1864, with only the sovereign rights to the land being exchanged. During prohibition, the winemaking industry was developed and it became a popular tourist destination in the 1950s. That business declined in the 1980s and was finally extinguished by new travel restrictions. Most of the old wineries are now Provencial Preserves. All of the characters in this story are over 17 years of age.

Huh. Imagine that. We had a whole author-sponsored event a couple years ago where the idea was to place the story in one place over the course of one night. Most authors chose actual places.

Agreed. I suspect you will not have a problem on resubmission if you explain it. The policy, I suspect, is to provide the site some modicum of protection against lawsuits from people and businesses embarrassed by being mentioned on an erotica site. Moreover, keep in mind that the initial screening must per force be done v quickly, so the rejection might not have been based on a full understanding.

I have seen many mention of, for instance, people meeting at McDonald’s for lunch or buying a shirt at Walmart. Referring to a specific Subway at a specific address would probably be over the line.

Setting a story in New York or London or Tokyo seems very common, so Pelee Island shouldn’t be a problem, either.

I wonder about the "All of the characters in this story are over 17 years of age.' disclaimer. 17 years and one day is also over 17. Couldn't you change that to 'over 18'?

Oh, I guess it could be interpreted that way -- a unit of measurement thing -- I meant it as a less clumsy way of saying "all persons are 18 or older." Thanks.
