Just a faint wisp of an idea...

Prof makes a joke in class about needing to find the right staircase to toss the exams down to get the right grade distribution... not sure how this leads to sex...

Maybe a student invites prof over to check out her staircase?

Is it a mature student (explaining how she has a staircase)?
Or does she live with Mom?

but that leaves an electronic trail... and isn't nearly as much fun.

It's a period piece. The prof, a refugee from the Manhattan Project, found the Monte Carlo method to be the best approximation of randomization. He refined that into the Stairstep Method but was bypassed for a Nobel in Physics which went to the developers of the transistor instead.

Insanely bitter, he uses gummed tapes to attach thin weights to papers he wants to go further down the stairsteps, cheating the odds. His beautiful, star-struck admin inadvertently sees him licking the gummed strips and fantasizes that his marvelous tongue was attacking *her*. Hilarity ensues, of course. No tentacle monsters need apply.

Why not have the staircase within the old university building - it's a good setting for a scene. Oak panels and stone pillars is always a good look.

Perhaps he can arrange a nighttime, candle-lit rendezvous with the student in an otherwise empty college ?

She'd have him wait at the foot of the grand stairs, taking an armful of papers up the flight with her to drop from above - her short skirt drawing his gaze as she progresses......she drops the papers down the void, then her blouse.......
