It certainly depends on a lot factors; A cheating secret is loaded with risks and guilt. It's not my cup of tea, but I also recognize that I'm in a somewhat unique marriage where she does support my bi side.
In my experience, it's not the wife who is of concern, it's building a suitable level of trust with the guy. Since I'm just not into or open to an unknown chain of his multiple sexual partners, my level of trust with "the friend" has to be solid.
