I learned today that "An amateur porn star" adapted my short story "Patent Pending" into an adult video!
The story concerns a scientist/inventor who shrinks the wife of his boss to get a better contract and the lion's share of the shrinking device he has created. As near as I can tell it is an exact reiteration of my story other than in my story the victim/heroine was a brunette and the "porn star" is a blonde. I was informed today, by someone in the know that she DID in fact base her film on my work. It sure looks the same. So the redundantly titled "My Little Shrunk Slut" is a direct adaptation of "Patent Pending!"
I'm more amused than anything else. I probably can't sue for a "piece of the action" so to speak. She apparently spent four months making this thing and one of her people wanted to know if I planned to expand the story. (So, they, no doubt, could rip me off some more.
It is stuff like this that moved me to self-publish my stuff on Amazon so that I can maintain control of my copyright. I have over twenty "Shrink Fiction" books to my pen name.
Has anything like this ever happened to anyone else?
Maybe Hollywood really WILL call me one day

Congrats, although I don't see where it's helped you maintain your copyright over anything. I've always thought that the porn filmers should exploit Literotica for plotlines.

It's your property. Do what you want with it, but you didn't write your story for profit, and you didn't publish it on Lit to preserve your rights.

A lot of our stories get ripped off one way or another. I think of it about the same way I think about my yard/garden. If the neighborhood kids want to play here then that's fine with me, as long as they don't damage things.

On the other hand, I might contact them to point out that it is your yard -- not a public space.

Send them a preview of part two.. If they are truly interested, you can certainly negotiate. Could you get paid as much as one of the stars? Maybe a cameo?

She shouldn't have taken your idea and ran with it, let alone have someone contact you regarding the opportunity for further exploitation. Ignorant rudeness is the worst kind.

She does seem like a hardworking individual. Quite a body of work.

She did give you the right to be proud. You have every right to be proud. This post should have been called, "My Posted Sex Story Has Already Been Made Into A Movie--Is That Usual?"

Holy smokes, she's asking $39.99 for it on Pornhub. You might want a piece of that action beyond a free copy of it, if you're interested.

You might at least ask her to give you credit for it and link to your Literotica page.

You can register a copyright under a pen name and a P.O. Box number for your address.

You can also register after the fact -- after the infringement occurred. You cannot recover your attorney's fees if you do this, but you can go after a cut of profits.

Not saying any of this makes any business sense in your position, but it's an option, and sometimes just rattling the cage gets some results even if you're not really prepared to sue.
