As part of the advisory, Chicagoans are asked to only leave the house for work or school or essential needs, which include getting medical care, going to the grocery store or pharmacy, getting takeout food or to receive deliveries.

"No visitors should be in your home unless they're essential workers, like home healthcare or education workers," Lightfoot said.

Of course, this is America we're talking about, where no matter how sensible the advisory, it will inspire a certain subset of the population to make a point of doing the opposite simply because they can. I wish we could secede from the union and take all the blue states with us. We’d still be the third largest economy by gdp in the world. The red states, which are almost all welfare states would crumble in a year or two. Wouldn’t be a strong enough economy to be in the g7 and they would watch as trump ran them into the ground just like every business that he owned. Then he’d rob them blind and run away.

I said all the blue states. Not just the ones you want to give us. New York, New Jersey, Virginia, Massachusetts, et al. And the gdp of California by itself is the 5th largest economy in the world. Sure it’s shrunk but still more vibrant than any red state. You’d get stuck with all the welfare states that suck money up like a car wash vacuum. Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi, Louisiana, West Virginia, Kentucky are all welfare states that can’t ever get enough free cash sent their way. They’d suck your version of the US dry in a matter of two years.

California puts in, on average, about 13 billion more into the coffers than they get in return from the government but Kentucky costs the US tax payer about 2 billion per year. Enjoy making that up when 12 of the top 15 gdp producing states are in the new USA.

You talk about a self reliance to determine your own destiny yet you support states that can’t run themselves properly. Poor education, poor infrastructure, poor management of natural resources and mismanagement of budgets all contribute to their hands being constantly in my pocket and yours.

Never much cared for Thanksgiving. A lot of time cooking, someone stuck doing all the cleaning, for maybe a couple hours “together” watching TV or now staring at their phones?

I’m thankful to skip all of that for a year, especially if it means next year I can see everyone - and be thankful it was just one Thanksgiving.
