I think it could be looked at from an internal thought disconnect of the whole candidate polices and basic understanding of what the term socialism means.

So when the voter contemplates casting a ballot for Biden, and having heard the message that Biden will raise taxes, and implement a social programs that will grab even more of your hard earned dollars, you cast your ballot for Trump. The guy who says he will lower your income tax.

The plus is, by voting to raise the minimum wage, and by re electing a President who, on the surface seems to be saying he will not tax you, the thought is of a real value wage increase that will not be gobbled up in taxes by Biden. As the propaganda pushed by the Trump campaign has implied.

There is no care outside those two ideas. No care about Racism, Foreign policy, etc etc. Just straight forward, what is in MY best interest.

So yes I can see how voters could vote for Trump, and vote to raise the minimum wage at the same time.

Branding issues. The Democratic brand is tainted, though not as badly as Trump’s. We in Arizona regularly elected Republicans until very recently, yet minimum wage has been the law of the land for some time now, resulting from a ballot proposition. The brand difficulties are as much about corruption as about as ideological labels. The Florida Democratic machine is notoriously corrupt and often rigs various primaries against populist and progressive candidates. Most of those "progressive" views are opposed by the Democratic leadership and fully accept the Republican framing of the issues such as taxes are universally bad, regulation is universally bad, being tough on crime, government take over of health care is wrong, tax breaks for the rich are good, welfare for poor people is bad, poor people are lazy, government helping people or fixing problems is wrong, etc.

You can't accept partisan Republican framing of the issues then tepidly endorse those same issues and have anyone take you seriously. "Yes, poor people are lazy but I still want to give them welfare."

With no consistent message uninformed voters will wander all over the place. That's why you see signs like, "Keep your government hands off my Medicare" at right wing rallies. Democrats allow socialism to be demonized then are mystified when they can't win elections by endorsing the most basic legislation that conforms to human decency in a civil society.

Same way I could vote for Biden but am a strong no on minimum wage of $15 an hour. it is only one issue among many. I do not generally expect a politician I vote for to have positions I unanimously support. I would never vote if I did.
