I really think there should be more written in this, and portraying her sexuality positively. What if there was a story that involved a woman who was a member of planned parenthood and was at a protest at the Texas State Capitol at a pro choice demonstration against an anti abortion law??? She looks like an 00’s Knightley/Portman or a 90’s Ryder for reference. This is in a post Covid future, so you don’t have to worry about that stuff.
The story idea is she meets this random dude at the protest, they go on normal dates together with common interests and then get into the bedroom. She wants to have unprotected sex with him(after STD testing) because he is taking experimental male birth control(after she gets oral). She enjoys the sex with her boyfriend and there’s some tears in there.
How does anyone like this sex positive idea?

Sex positive is always good, as are strong female characters. It is still interesting that the onus on contraception is left with the woman!

I suspect you mean they meet at a pro-choice rally. The way you worded it has me a little confused- imo, it is impossible to call yourself a feminist if you do not believe in female bodily autonomy. There are many feminists who would probably never consent to have a medical termination of pregnancy, however they believe it is another woman's right to choose what she does with her body and it should never be considered part of the criminal code.

I fixed it. Also think male birth control could easily be an idea to use as well!!!

Agreed. A part of me was fearing the worst with this thread, happy to be proven wrong!

Exactly. I am not turned on by the idea of woman being treated horribly for doing the right thing. Look at all the ugly comments on Emma Watson’s speeches on YouTube. She is a beautiful woman but some people are just evil.

not all of them are evil, some are just in so much pain they need to share it before they explode...like the LW trolls.

While in real life 'sex positive' is good, I feel riveting stories need drama, some obstacle to overcome. Hot girl meets hot guy and they have sex is a boring story.

Something more to it

I have stewed around with a story like this. There's a female protagonist who's active with Women's Rights and wants equality across the board. She's relentless, strong, and working nonstop to help all people, people of color, men, women, kids, etc, and the focus is on women's rights.

But, at the end of the day, she understands she's female and has biological desires and despite some of her more militant feminist friends, she likes fucking guys. So the story really is about her trying to seduce a guy who knows who she is and thinks she's putting him on.

Maybe she is a bit more militant than she means because he's not having it. And she's not going to force or coerce but she's trying to find a way to bed him.

And scene!

It sounds like a guys fantasy and is not the reality of he women I associate with, most of whom you would term militant feminist and many of whom also work tirelessly for the rights of others.

If you can make modern gender politics erotic, I will be very impressed.

Yeah, I know this thread is a month old, but... even before SisterJezabel commented on it, I had some issues with it too when I read it, just didn't know the words.

It's an okay idea, it just might be scrutinised if you or someone writes it the wrong way.

Feminist women are normal. Normal sexuality. It's us guys that put an interesting spin on it and fantasize them as sexually dominant. If you look at what dommes and aggressive self appointed 'strong women' say on twitter, they will mostly not call themselves feminist, and may even say they "don't need feminism". etc.

The "find a way to bed him" thing sounds a bit insane. Have the guy actually somewhat interested in her.

Okay, done now.

sex positive and woman positive is the key.

sex positive and woman positive is the key.

Elaborate.

what's to elaborate?

"sex positive" is defined by Oxford as "having or promoting an open, tolerant, or progressive attitude towards sex and sexuality.
"sex-positive education"

in this context it means presenting whatever sex occurs as a good thing- so happy endings all around, no negative repercussions.

"woman positive" may simply mean self-affirmation by the woman. More broadly, the feminist is not a bitch, not a slut, not a man hater, not anything negative.

Otherwise it is misogyny and just feeding the trolls.

I find it hard to believe a female author could write from anything except a feminist pov... because she's smart enough to write so... surely? No matter how many marches you attend or how politically active, you can't change the physical requirements of men and women - inny bits and outey bits. Besides women like being women - it's not like we want to be men. We like dicks, we just don't want to live with one!

Women complain that birth control falls on them, but would we trust a guy with that job? Maybe in a marriage but not so much early in a relationship - that's what condoms are for.

The OP will need to establish that feminist angle outside the bedroom. Keep us posted and good luck!

To me, that is kind of short-sighted because a good writer can write about any point of view.

I am male, but in school I wrote a story, and it was okay, but then I realize I needed to write it from the wife's point of view. It changed the whole story for the better, and my teacher was amazed that I could write from a different genders perspective so well. It was a major turning point in my writing because I realized the true power of POV, and realized I could pull off any gender.

Today I am a real author with published books. I flip-flop POV based on what is better for the story. But it is not about me, it is about what is the best experience for the reader.

It happens to be that my latest novel is based on the original posters premise. How well it does in sales is yet to be determined, but my point is, it should not short-sell yourself on gender perspective.

Writers are con-artists: we use words in just the right places to make a reader feel like they are actually experiencing what we are writing about, but in fictional works, its all pretend. How well we do that is based on our word-smithing skills.

In my experience it often starts off "women positive" but give it time and SHE, not him, she, will be wanting her hair pulled and to be called a bitch while getting ploughed from behind.
