Americans all over the country saw the left wing violence, the smashing up and looting of shops and business, all encouraged by the Democrat supporting mainstream media and not condemned by Democrats. They had an opportunity to punish the Democrats for this outrageous dereliction of duty, particularly in New York and California, but they have opted for...more of the same!

I gave the people in these places the benefit of the doubt before, I felt sorry for them because they didn't vote for this...but now they HAVE voted for it. So California, New York...fuck ya, fuck you all. I hope your cities and states continue to go into terminal decline. No sympathy anymore, you brought it on yourselves.

The violence is not “left wing”. Liberals and Democrats are overwhelmingly opposed to all violence. Peaceful democracy is at the heart of what most of “the left” want. Well, you want to blame city mayors, but did it ever occur to you that perhaps this problem goes a bit beyond city ordinances and local police departments? Have you noticed just how dramatically civil unrest has gone up, and the level of actual violence and threats of violence have gone up in the last four years?

Since I doubt you know much context about Portland, let me point out just a few key tidbits. First off, the Portland police have had a number of issues for some time and remain at the heart of the problem. One of the main issues is that they have been not only soft on extinguishing violent right wing extremists in recent years, they have actually been caught coordinating with them on occasion. Most of us watching this had concerns about the rising threats of right wing extremists AND the inevitable extremist response. Tacitly endorsing, supporting, or failing to quash extremism of any brand is also setting up an inevitable rise in extremist opposition.

There’s lots of blame to go around there, but you would be blind if you didn’t see that trump deserves a huge slice of that blame.

The cultural aspects of American politics are a bit more complex than that. What each party supposedly stands for and against is also highly subjective, and mostly marketing BS. Speaking as someone on the left who is not wealthy, but reasonably well informed; a perspective that many of have is that we resent the level of willful ignorance of so many on things like climate change, health care, tax burden, etc. The Republican Party has done an amazing job of capturing a lot of support from low income, low education level voters...despite the fact that their policies have nearly always been negative to these same voters. The Democratic Party has done a comparatively poor job of connecting with these voters, despite the fact that most of their policies are often shaped to benefit them. The reasons for both are quite complex, but traction of certain buzzwords like “elite” and “socialism” have played a big role.

i recall it, the labour party was always big on education education education. it's only through education you get an informed populace. an informed populace is less able to be manipulated by political posturing and lies.
