Is this serious or a joke? I wanted to include a profile pic but was unable to find out where to do it. I thought I read somewhere that ability was withheld until the person hit 100 posts.

The author's profile takes a day or two for the edits to go through.

Tried editing it to include a direct link to a new work on Smashwords, but the link I inputted isn't active/can't be followed.
I thought perhaps I wasn't inputting it correctly.
I was hoping I could update my profile, and if a follower saw I had a new story available, then maybe they'd go and buy it.

The site doesn't allow active links in profiles, but you can put active links into your forum signature block - as I have done.
The site allows, but doesn't actively support, links to offsite commercial places. Why should it? It's not a free marketing site.
Whatever you do, don't put incomplete stories here and then advertise the complete version elsewhere for pay. That will get a story taken down, and run the risk of getting yourself banned. That is site policy.
This comes around regularly and the answer is always the same - the site allows what the site allows, work within that and you get the same opportunities as everyone else. If the site changes it changes, but it's completely up to the site's owner what she allows. It doesn't matter what we might think or want or say. It's Laurel's site, she governs it how she chooses. Here's the thing.
I love posting here. I posted my first story here on September 13, 2004, some 16 years ago. I'll keep posting as long as I'm able to write, and so long as I'm not booted off.
At the same time, with as much time and effort that goes into writing stories, should I be able to link to my other work in my author profile?
I would never want to make a mess of the site, or contaminate the actual story part of the site, but I think having my own little piece of turf to tout from doesn't hurt.
Would be interested to hear other opinions.
