Lit has new Hubs now

We can now show all stories in each category published within the past 7 days, even if that were 100+ stories. We think this will be popular with readers based on feedback and feature requests.

It might take people a little time to get used to the new hubs, but the expanded "New Stories In Category" section alone should make it better for many readers than the old one.

The number of new stories published on this site every week must be significant. From an author's point of view, it's easy to get lost in the constant rush of incoming new material. But that is the price to be be paid from moving from the old world of print (where it was very hard to get anything published) to the new digital world where almost anything can (and does) get published somewhere.

Over 40,000 stories have been published in the last year. That's over 100 per day, 700 per week.

But the number of stories is very category-dependent. Of the 100+ stories published a day, 15-25 are incest stories. That means if you publish an incest story it can drop off the new incest story hub page within one day (under the old system), which obviously sucks.

But Illustrated sees, on average, less than one story per day. The last story published in Illustrated was published over a month ago. So the old system was great for Illustrated stories, because they stayed on the new story hub for weeks, or even months. I think it makes a difference, too, because Illustrated stories, while few, get huge view numbers.

I think it's good that the Site is being responsive to the desire of authors to maximize exposure, and the best way to do that is combine the best features of the old and new systems to account for the extreme disparities in categories.

Has anyone figured out how to get to your own control panel with this new beta? I've searched all over. Logged out and logged back in, but that didn't help. I have no idea where it went, but decided I'm not the only one with this issue.

Help?

There's a drop-down menu from your avatar (or blue circle if you don't have an avatar) at the top right of the page. The first selection on the menu is "My Home." That takes you to your control panel.

In the new story page the tags are in the story information block are at the top right of the first page.

Yeah, but you have to click on them, how many desperate readers with a "pressing issue" are going to click on that?

The other thing that would be nice on the story card on the lists page is the number of words in the story.

Thanks NotWise,

It isn't intuitively obvious that I should click on my avatar. Perhaps a little hint would help new users who aren't familiar with the site--or even old people like me. :D

I miss the Recent comments list. I know there's the Portal, but has all categories, we used to be able to view them within the category, and the "Popular" listing seems way out of whack. Moving the alpha search from the row at the top to a box on the right seems like a waste of space.

I like that on the prior change you added a view all comments option, but why do we have to click "More" twice to see it?

This. But I had a hell of a time finding it too, with no advance notice or help in locating it.

There is a little arrow next to the avatar that suggests that it is a drop down type of thing.

The Popular Stories list that replaces HOF does not filter out stories with less than 100 votes. I think this just amplifies the problem of the list being swamped by late chapters of long series.

That should be changed. This is a problem that just grows with time.

I wonder if there's a way to rescore series by taking the series average, using that to determine its place on a HOF/Toplist, and then have it take just one spot on the list.

This is a great idea.

It's such a shame that series often take up multiple spots on the HOF reducing the exposure of a broader selection of stories/authors. I do hope this is something that Manu can do.

What about removing those series from that "Popular" list, and adding a "Notable Series" section at the very bottom? It could show five or so series' that have been exceptionally well received all around. You could also make it somewhat random so the same titles won't always be there. And if said section was reserved only for complete series', it would incentivize people to finish what they start.

This is all just a thought, and it might be too complicated for the return, but I too see a problem with the same stories monopolizing the HoF with a series that has several chapters hogging up valuable real estate. For about two years, one of my stories held at least 8 out of the top 20 slots on the HoF list, making it an uphill battle for anyone who even thought about breaking into the top list. It was a waste.

As someone who also enjoys surfing for cool stories in the category I write in, it made it much more difficult to find one of those new gems, because if I wanted to see if a new story was gaining popularity, I had to do much more site navigation and analysis to find them. For a regular reader, that would be too much work (as it quickly became for me.)

Now, some might say that adding a fourth section to the Story Portal might be too much, but i disagree. It could easily take over the place of the side column that once held the "recent comments' which has become less and less useful now that comments are approved by moderates in huge swaths, making the most "recent" comment completely arbitrary depending on when the comments are approved for that day.

Just some thoughts.

I'm starting to get used to the new Hubs and having to click to expand the list of stories.

In the old hubs, hovering a cursor above the star next to the rating popped up a box with the story's number of votes. That doesn't seem to be available on the new hubs, although the story's other numerics (views, favorites, etc.) are shown. Just wondering if vote totals were specifically kept out this time, and if so, why. Not as big a deal as some of the issues raised by others.

I also liked the ability to see the number of votes, as I like seeing what people are reading and voting on.

You can still see the number of votes if you go to the 30 day Toplist. But you'll have to wait 24 hours to see the results.

The 30 days Toplist is a mystery for me. Looking at Interracial, it doesn't seem to give the stories of the last 30 days, and also not all of the scores, nr of reads, etc. are that impressive. It seems more like a random list. Same for the 7 days Toplist.

I mean, the first story on the 30 days Toplist I see is one published on 07/20/2015 with a score of 4.59 and 242 likes, the next is published on 08/20/2019, score 4.84, 23 favorites; 04/03/06, 4.39, 71 likes, ... Am I seeing things wrong?

I don't see what you described.

If I go to the 30-day Interracial toplist it looks right. The highest score is 4.73 and the stories of from the lasts thirty days. It looks the same regardless of whether I get there from the new index page or from my control panel.

That is a really weird glitch.

If you access the toplists via the toplist menus, they don't appear that way. They appear to be correct. But you're right; if you access the popular story lists via the category hub page, the results are completely incomprehensible. I checked another story category and it had the same problem.

I'm still not getting that result. I checked several categories, and the 30-day lists all looked fine. I'm using Firefox on a desktop computer running Ubuntu 18.02. I checked using Chrome on my ancient cellphone, and it still looked normal.

Yeah, that's the one thing I don't like that much. I think people will sometimes overlook the more link.

Agreed, because most votes seem to come in while the story is listed in "New," and getting more legitimate votes serves to offset early trolling.

I am getting the same error, and I think your description is correct on the steps I was taking when I got the issue. If I got to the popular 30 day category, I expect to see the highest rated stories for that category which were published in the last 30 days. Not a story from 2018.

Is there some way this could be browser-dependent? Or maybe beta-tester dependent? I think I'm using the new versions of everything. I've already given my software specs, but I've repeated the experiment on my cellphone, too.

I don't get the problem you're talking about, and it doesn't make a difference how I get to the top lists. They all look right.

My normal process is:

Point my browser to the login page (https://literotica.com/members/login.php) and log in. That takes me to my user control panel.

From there, I can pull down the Explore menu and go to Popular stories. I can pull down the Explore menu and go to Categories and then select Story Top lists. Either way, I get the same result.

I've even gone to the Literotica.com start page (with the graphic of a naked woman) and followed the links to the index page and then to top lists.

Once I have the top lists, I select a category -- Mature, for instance -- and it brings up the all-time top list. I click on "Last 30 Days", and the story at the top of the list is "Ashleigh Part 08," which posted on 10/6/20.

What are you doing differently? Are you actually selecting the "Last 30 Days" link?

Try this. From the main story page --https://literotica.com/beta/stories/ -- click on a story category of your choice.

Scroll down to the "Popular Stories" list below.

Click on "30 Days."

If you do that, you will see stories listed that are much older than 30 days. There's a glitch.

I've done this for multiple categories, and the glitch recurs.

You're right. That's a problem. I followed your instructions step-by-step and the top of the list in Mature was from 1/1/2019.

So the problem is with the "Popular [name your category] stories" from the new category hub, but not from the top lists?

Well, I published a new story today and there are some inconsistencies. It doesn’t show on the category new list, neither do others published today, but it does show if I go to “more new stories”. It doesn’t show up in tag search, so I suppose the tag indexes are updated at some not immediate fashion. Also, now it has close to a thousand views and whole of two votes :D I’ve noticed the saving of the vote seems to take a long time lately, and often ends up in error, so maybe that’s why. Or then my readers just give up in disgust halfway through :)
