Hello

I'm an Indian writer who had written few stories in first POV namely the "Indian Landlord vs The Tenant Girls". I also wrote a one-shot story "The Thrilling Bus Ride In India " which involves the same girl .

Now I'm writing another story which involves the same girl from the bus ride and the man in a theatre so the title - "The Thrilling Bus Ride In India pt 2" wont mak any sense. Although its a one shot it involves lot of source from the other stories. If I were to right them in chronological order. It would be

Indian Landlord vs The Tenant Girls
Indian Landlord vs The Tenant Girls Pt.2
The Thrilling Bus Ride In India
Indian Landlord vs The Tenant Girls Pt.3
and my working title - The Movie Date.

In my author section, the The Thrilling Bus Ride In India is currently orphaned. Is it possible to the Lit mods to the stories under this chronology so that people who want a one shot can also read it and also a series.

By the way,the series is later continued by hangout favorite Rustyoznail who has written the first part of "Cricket, Anyone? India vs Australia" and two more sequels involving the same women from the Landlord series.

Your views are welcomed. Unfortunately, the title length is too short so you cant put a title like "Landlord series presents - The Movie Date" for the spinoffs

Others might know differently, but I don't think you can do this.

The way to group stories is to give each story a common name to start, followed by a chapter name, like this:

Indian Landlord: Tenant Girls 01
Indian Landlord: Tenant Girls 02

It's constricting because of the 35 character limitation for titles, but I think this is the way you do this.

If you've already started publishing you might be able to resubmit, redo the titles, and send a note to the administrator with the submission about what you're doing.

You could try resubmitting the stories using the title chapter sequence you want:

Same Title Ch.1
Same Title Ch.2

Add a Note to the Editor to explain what you're doing. You could also PM Laurel, explaining it all, with links to the stories.

Or, don't worry about it, submit more new stories (and plan ahead, next time).

The only way that can be done is to start each title the same way e.g.

Landlord 01 Tenant girls
Landlord 02 Tenant girls
Landlord 03 Tenant girls

BUT there is a character limit on titles so you have to be short.

For existing stories to be retitled you have to send a PM to Laurel BUT that will probably mean the stories appear twice in your list, as you could see from my list of stories.

Do they really need to be grouped? (I have recurring characters in many of my stories.)

Thanks Alina but my story has references to the previous chapters and its better for readers to get context to understand it better.

You have other options too. First, you could edit your stories and add a short note in the beginning to the tune of "This story is a continuation of events which started in <insert your title here>." and an end note containing "The story will continue in <insert story title here>."

Second, you could put a reading order list into your author profile page. No idea how many people actually go there, but if interest is big enough, it might be a valid thing to try.

Indian Landlord vs The Tenant Girls
Indian Landlord vs The Tenant Girls Pt.2
The Thrilling Bus Ride In India
Indian Landlord vs The Tenant Girls Pt.3
and my working title - The Movie Date.

Similar to Simon's suggestion, but I think the girls are the recurring characters. Something like this should work:

Indian Girls Ch. 01: Landlord vs. Tenants
Indian Girls Ch. 02: The Landlord Again
Indian Girls Ch. 03: Thrilling Bus Ride
Indian Girls Ch. 04: Landlord's Return
Indian Girls Ch. 05: The Movie Date

But avoid doing this:

Indian Girls Ch. 01: Landlord Pt. 1
Indian Girls Ch. 02: Landlord Pt. 2
Indian Girls Ch. 03: Thrilling Bus Ride
Indian Girls Ch. 04: Landlord Pt. 3
Indian Girls Ch. 05: The Movie Date

If you have two chapter indicators in the title, Lit will try to sequence by both of them, and you'll get weird results.

This. It's never been a problem for me. If it matters, I mention the "prequels" in an author's note at the start of the piece. I also maintain a document which groups all my stories, and I advertise its availability to people who submit email feedback. I get about one request every couple of months.

Otherwise, you'll need to resubmit/retitle.

I wish there were a convenient way to do this! I have several interconnected stories with titles that give the reader no way of knowing they're sequels to one another (I do sometimes mention that on the description line, but that's not always practical).

Plan ahead, is about all you can do. I use a combination of chaptered stories (my Floating World) or a thematic collection (Songs of Seduction - something something). It seems to work.

As most of us know, it doesn't always work out like that. You finish one story, then somewhere down the track an idea for a sequel rears it's ugly head.

Rusty, my whole story file is interlocked. So far as I'm concerned, it all makes total sense :).

Russ knows it better than anyone. The first part was written around 8 years ago in a site which is now decommissioned .You can guess from the use of technology like SMS in that.

I wrote the second and third part recently. The Bus ride story was initially planned as standalone but I decided to play with the same characters.

I've two other stories - Onsite adventure and Mile High club which feature the same character but they are so disjointed that I dont wish the need to club them.

Even Russ's story "India vs Australia" can be read without reading my stories but the second and third parts(tbr) have continuation from first.

Most of you here know I initially edit and sanity-check nearly everything BB1958 writes before his real editor goes in and does a proper number on them. One of the things I like about his work is the way he intersects his various story-worlds without being obsessive about it; sometimes all he'll do is drop a couple Easter Eggs and see how many people pick them up; that way, if you haven't read all his stories you don't feel like there's back-story missing from whichever one you're currently reading, and if you do pick up on it, there's that "Ohhh Yeaahh..." feeling as the connection falls into place. He thinks it's fun to see how few, sometimes vague, hints he can drop and still have people pick up on them.

Things to come...

It was mentioned by Manu, I think, that there will be a series grouping at some point in the future. And you the author get to do that. But I don't know when that will be out or even in beta.

Thanks Alina but my story has references to the previous chapters and its better for readers to get context to understand it better.

If it's a situation where you really don't want to use that sort of formatting and give them their own title (like say the firs story is called Sex in Connecticut but in the second story they've moved on to Nevada), I'd at least make a note before you get into the story about the order of the stories. Try to make it easier on your readers.
