What do you think?

Is it time for her to step aside, or is she still going strong?

Pelosi, 80, is the only woman to ever serve as speaker of the House. She first served as speaker from 2007 to 2011. She served as minority leader before and after that.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-NY., a first-term progressive who has been one of the most vocal Democratic critics of House leadership, told CNN's Tapper she would support Pelosi for another term, provided no progressive challenger surfaced.

Can you even believe it?

How do people like her ever make it in any election regardless of political views?

Nah, she's just very good at getting attention (aided by the fact that the right is utterly obsessed with her). As for Pelosi, I see no reason why she shouldn't get another term as speaker. She's done a good job this term, getting hundreds of bills passed which McConnell has then sat on in the Senate. Imagine what she'll be able to do when he loses his majority!

no. no. NO!

I'd say this is another reason for our side of the aisle to support her...but let's face it, anyone the Dems elect as their leader is going to be vilified on the right just as much as Pelosi is now. :D

She's the most successful house speaker in U.S history, getting the most done as well as being the first female house speaker.

That said I don't think she is always on the ball, she has made some strange statements at times that made me wonder, her statement on the original covid relief bill when it was delayed was... not good, it came off as identity politics and a misguided appeal to socialists. Other times she is fine.

She does make the right super angry so that's always a plus, shes like the left's version of Mitch McConnell but without the being possessed by satan part.

I voted no.

The American people and the democratic party needs better more progressive and less corporate leadership than what Nancy has provided during her tenure as speaker.

My oppinion aside I realize that's not gonna happen though. In washington and the way our political party is structured the key to holding power is how much ass you kiss of the donor class and do their bidding rather than doing what's best for the everyday American citizens. So despite what I want she's not going anywhere until we primary her out of her seat.

If trump gets reelected then, YES. If Biden gets elected then, NO. She said last time that that it was going to be it for her. She lied to calm the AOC crowd last session probably figuring a year in the swamp would mellow them out.

trump, Pelosi and McConnell need to get the fuck out for starters.

I'm a no. I think it's time for her (and the entire top tiers of both parties) to step aside and let the younger folks move up.

As for how she get's re-elected - she's in a safe district, has an impressive history, comes from a wealthy and powerful family (locally) and can raise a crap ton of money. In short, the usual incumbent advantage.

I do think, just from what I have seen of her impromptu interviews and speeches, that she is losing it, mentally. Age is a one serious and inevitable beast.

Hell.

She doesn't even like the Democratic party!

Term Limits would resolve these matters.

Two terms for the seat.

One term in any of the four leadership positions.

Holy Shit!

We agree on something!

(Falls to floor with a thud!)

She basically promised that this next term would be it for her. That would make ten terms as party leader and four as Speaker, one of the longer runs ever on both counts. She'd probably like one more term trying to push an agenda drawn up by her own party instead of just blocking a Republican.

The traditional image of the House Speaker is of an old man, but Pelosi is currently the oldest Speaker ever.

Mitch McConnell reset the moral compass of the GOP - to zero with respect to judicial appointments and the GOP's Senate refusal to consider legislation.

The Democrats, if they get a Senate majority should respond in kind - with total, complete, and unflinching ruthlessness. If that requires Pelosi at the top, so be it. New States, scrapping the filibuster and super majorities should all be on the agenda. Many junior judicial positions remain unfilled.

The Supreme court needs to be intimidated out of its new role as the de-facto legislative chamber. Two additional appointments are needed at the first opportunity, with the clear message of more to follow if required.

Pelosi is not the issue, the issue is whether Biden has the stomach to be sufficiently ruthless. Appointing the right people is crucial.

If, if the Democrats get that Senate majority, they should smash the remnants of the Trumpian GOP completely - and ironically, that is probably the best hope for the long term future of conservative politics. It is the GOP's Augean stable.

But thankfully, you treat people like McConnell with respect and deference; you would never vilify, you're the reason in reasonable.

:nods:

Feel free to show me one thing anyone here has said about McConnell that isn't true.

Assuming she wins her congressional election, I'm in favor of her holding, by prior agreement, the position for three or four months into the next administration and then handing the position off no matter who is in the presidency. So, my choice isn't covered in the poll.
