The official Authors' Hangout Halloween 2020 contest Support Thread

Contest Stats

Looks like the contest is complete, and there are 197 total entries. (Not sure what the contest record is, but this seems to be a healthy number.)

19 authors have at least two entries (I am aware of at least two who have entries under other pseudonyms, so there may be more) and two authors have three entries, six have four. (I don't know how you do it, either extraordinarily fertile imaginations and production abilities, or stories held in reserve in your back pocket for the right moment.)

The tales sort into 25 categories, not surprisingly Erotic Horror is the winner with 47 entries. Here is how the rest fare:

Anal 2
Audio 6
BDSM 3
Celebrities 2
Erotic Coupling 8
Erotic Horror 47
Exhibitionism/Voyeur 8
Fetish 2
First Time 6
Gay Male 3
Group Sex 12
How-To 1
Humor/Satire 8
Incest/Taboo 17
Lesbian 4
Loving Wives 5
Mature 5
Mind Control 5
Non-Erotic 2
NonConsent 9
NonHuman 1
Novels 2
Romance 9
Sci-Fi 13
Trans/Crossdressing 7

Ten of the stories are also in the Amorous Goods challenge.

Amazing output and range, thanks to all who have written. Some good reading to do...

I have four as me and one as jeanne.

All are rated in the Ho-Hum area = not good enough to be in contention and not bad enough to be 'the worst'.

I'm not surprised. But I'll try to find my own spin on it.

I'm sure you will.

I get that itch all the time -- I read a story, and I like the concept but would like to see it handled a bit differently. Many of my stories started with that impulse.

That's all my stories, so I'm right there with you. I'll get the first round.

Although, if my troll had her way, I'd be the worst across the line.

Both of mine are in that ho hum range. Good enough that I’m happy but nowhere near in contention to place. Seeing as I wrote the for myself, and rather non competitively minded, I’m really happy with how i and my alt are doing 🤗

I lost 2 votes and gained a whole .02 in score. :D

Me too, only backwards ; )

I lost one vote and lost .02 in score. Actually I've seen my score fluctuating quite a bit in both directions over the last two days. I have assumed steps are being taken to smooth things ahead of the official results.

What?

Oh. A sweep.

At a certain point, you just don't notice them anymore. Lol.

I've read several of the entries this year; lots of good shit posted in this contest. Well done, everybody!

If you're hovering just below the top ranks in the scoring, you notice them.

I have not lost any votes, and I definitely got some one bombs along the way, so I'm checking frequently.

How do you know if you're hovering in such a place? Not an issue for me, but I do wonder whether it's possible to track, apart from visiting every story rating page one by one - repeatedly!

I didn't visit every page, but I looked at a lot of them, and did not see more than a handful that were rated over 4.80.

Mine is at 4.74 right now with 104 votes. If a few 1-bombs got removed, I'd probably be in or just behind the top tier.

Good luck.

I have a script that reads all the contest scores and ranks the stories. I will not list the rankings or scores, but it does let me see what's going on, even though since last spring I only get the once-a-day snapshot.

The sweeps usually affect all the stories about the same. A small part will jump up or down in the rankings because of the sweeps, but it's pretty common for the scores to rise due to sweeps, but for contest rankings for most stories to change rather little.

As of last night, sweeps have boosted the median contest score from < 4.4 to about 4.46. It's probably higher now. There hadn't been a big change in the top scores yet, but after the final sweep the winner will probably be about 4.9.

Still waiting to see any result from the sweep. I have been watching my score periodically every day since it was posted, and it just keeps sitting at the same 4.79/4.80, only seeming to fluctuate with new votes coming in. I haven't noticed any votes being removed yet, but it could have happened in a way that I didn't notice.

Anywho, excited to see who the winners are soon!

I was hoping one of my other stories would get swept in the process, but apparently not. There’s no amount of sweeping that can help my Halloween story :D

Mine is also a 4.74 but from 238 votes. It went up .4 in this weep so not sure if there is much more movement to happen.

You never know, though. My story in the Summer Lovin' contest jumped from around 4.35 to 4.50 in the last sweep.

Swept just now- lost 4 votes and went from 4.74 to 4.76. Not a winner, but an excellent score on a story I am pretty proud of.
