I was always a tomboy, though the meaning seems to have changed. I was always happier running around outside, climbing trees, going on little adventures than I was with more “domestic” activities. I wore overalls (Osh Kosh BGosh!), ball caps, etc. i was outdoorsy and loved sports. But I still had longish hair and was definitely a girl. In high school I embraced my feminine side, but to this day I am still a tom at heart.

My wife was/is the same way. She would tell me that in her younger days, she would have to wear boys "toughskin" jeans from Sears that had the reinforced knees or she would tear through a pair in a few days.

I hadn’t thought about the meaning of “tomboy” for a long time. I googled it and had a very hard time finding images that reflect my perception. It was never about identity, it was just what I liked to do. It was wholesome. Now it seems to be something edgy, grungy, rebellious, “trans” oriented, with attitude.
