In my opinion, My country should invest in and upgrade its voting infrastructure. Presuming there is no pandemic in the future, I feel we should vote primarily in person on election day. Absentee and mail in ballots should be extremely limited to specific conditions. I view the act of physically casting your ballot as a patriotic obligation; a tribute to the sacrifices people made before us. I am very fortunate. I can cast my ballot in person in less than 10 minutes on Election Day. I think it should be like that for everyone. Increase the number of polling places. Increase staffing. Invest in secure and accurate voting technology. Make Election Day an National holiday. Everyone should be willing to make a small sacrifice for their country. Personally, if I had to stand on line for 12 hours to cast my vote, I would. But it should not be that way. God Bless America.

I don't know the actual numbers, but I think early voting/vote by mail has been very popular everywhere it's been used. I can't think of a state that's gone to it that has later rescinded, though a few states have trimmed early voting here and there.

The reason we don't have more staffing, more polling places etc. is the expense; and there's not more of a political will to do something about it because it's only periodically a problem, and because current office holders like the present state of affairs under which they were elected.

In my world you'll be able to vote from wherever you are at the moment, worldwide, based on your place of residence. An indicator will appear on your implanted heads-up display showing which day to vote. You'll enter your vote with eye movements that will be automatically verified to be you by Retinal Scan. You'll have to vote, but could select 'none of the above' for all positions.

There will be no polling places or ballots to submit or tally. It will all be done instantly upon completion of the selections.

Try to think past your current cult years, when you might not be so interested in standing in a voting line for many hours, as required in certain underprivileged districts today. This bill addresses voter access, election integrity, election security, political spending, and ethics for the three branches of government.

Specifically, the bill expands voter registration and voting access and limits removing voters from voter rolls.

The bill provides for states to establish independent, nonpartisan redistricting commissions.

The bill also sets forth provisions related to election security, including sharing intelligence information with state election officials, protecting the security of the voter rolls, supporting states in securing their election systems, developing a national strategy to protect the security and integrity of U.S. democratic institutions, establishing in the legislative branch the National Commission to Protect United States Democratic Institutions, and other provisions to improve the cybersecurity of election systems.

This bill addresses campaign spending, including by expanding the ban on foreign nationals contributing to or spending on elections; expanding disclosure rules pertaining to organizations spending money during elections, campaign advertisements, and online platforms; and revising disclaimer requirements for political advertising.

This bill establishes an alternative campaign funding system for certain federal offices. The system involves federal matching of small contributions for qualified candidates.

This bill sets forth provisions related to ethics in all three branches of government. Specifically, the bill requires a code of ethics for federal judges and justices, prohibits Members of the House from serving on the board of a for-profit entity, expands enforcement of regulations governing foreign agents, and establishes additional conflict-of-interest and ethics provisions for federal employees and the White House.

The bill also requires candidates for President and Vice President to submit 10 years of tax returns.

how much is due to mail-in voting being pushed, and how much is due to economics/politically motivated voter suppression i cannot say but when you look at the numbers and which states (and when the stations were closed), it's clear the impact on voting this will have:

Shuttering polling sites can lead to voter confusion, as people head to the wrong place to vote out of habit or because they haven’t heard their old polling place has been closed or moved. It can also create undue logistical challenges, especially for people who don’t have their own cars, hourly workers who can’t afford to take time off to vote, and parents and others who can’t afford to wait in long lines at polling locations.

In the time of COVID, it’s not as safe to ride a bus across town to a new voting site as it would be to walk to the local school where voting used to occur. The people most likely to be impacted by this are disproportionately Black and Hispanic people, who statistically are less likely to have access to a car.

“Having polling locations farther away or that are more crowded creates a hardship for many workers, particularly blue-collar and hourly workers,” NAACP President Derrick Johnson told VICE News.

Some states have made deep cuts to Election Day voting sites but did little to nothing to making mail voting easier to access.The most glaring example — and the one that alarms voting rights experts the most — is Maryland.

The state has moved to eliminate 80% of its polling places, the highest proportion in the country. That includes a 90% cut in heavily Black Baltimore — the city has gone from 296 polling places in 2016 to just 24 this election. There will be almost 19,000 potential voters for every polling place in the state — almost five times more people per polling place than the national average of 4,200.

Plans for the Federal Elections should be set by the FEC and should be standard in all states. Parties and elected officials should have no input.
