On every story I've posted here, the story submittal form imposes limits of 35 characters on the title and 60 characters on the description. If I type past a limit, the characters simply don't show up on the form. Yet I see plenty of stories with longer titles and descriptions. Is there a workaround to the limits?

I don't see examples of stories with longer titles. Can you give examples?

We ran into that issue with the AG stories series. Laurel told us to state how we wanted it in the Notes field. I'm not recommending you do that because it may have only been for the series.

Laurel can extend the title length for chaptered pieces, but we mortals must stick to the 35 word title constraint to start out with.

I like that constraint. It forces me to be careful and concise.

Would like several more spaces available in both fields, though. I went through a career with 60 spaces available for headlines. I still compose in my head to that limit.

Szensei's stories often have longer descriptions. I have wondered about this too.

...Not that it isn't a fun challenge to describe a story in 60 characters.

I don't mind the limits. Working within them can be a challenge, but I think the site it challenging you do to it within limits.

I had one story that I wanted to make part of an anthology, and asked Laurel how to do it. She combined my title and the anthology title into one title that exceeded the character limit. I doubt that it breaks anyone's view.

So... back to the OP...

In response to the OP, does anyone know how people are able to exceed the description character limit?

I gave one example of this in my post above. That author has several stories with very long descriptions - like full paragraphs.

By including a Note to the Editor - that's the only way I can see to get extra character privileges.

Thanks. Somebody mentioned Szensei before I could. Since nobody seems to know of an established workaround, I'm content to let the matter drop.

I ran into this with an early series. I hadn’t originally realized there was a limit until well into the series, when I found that “House Of Feathers Ch. xx:” left only eight or nine spaces for the distinguishing part of a title. My titles for the earlier tales hadn’t fallen into that trap.

A note in the administrator box on the submission page giving the full title I wanted and asking politely worked for me and I learned something for subsequent series.
