If I am dying, which, pending the results of my latest scan I'm apparently not, I would be happy to volunteer to see if a new treatment might help others.

Over 100,000 UK people have volunteered to test the new COVID vaccines and they will be deliberately infected with COVID. There are people willing to risk their health to try to protect others.

The nature of experimentation absolutely requires human tests at some point. Petri dishes, then rats, then... Before any drug or vaccine is released for general use, there have to be human trials.

Absolutely and such incidents are to be strongly condemned, but human testing is necessary. Without it, we would have no idea if a drug/vaccine works, has side effects, etc.

What we must ensure is that is informed, voluntary consent.

These days, they normally ask for volunteers and sometimes they are paid. It wasn't always this way though.

I have completed an enduring power of attorney for my wife and daughters to manage my financial affairs if I am unable to. Despite solicitors advertising to arrange that for about £500, it is a fairly simple procedure to do yourself for less than £100.

Shortly I will do the parallel one for health decisions.

The first one is because my hearing is sometimes worse than normal and I cannot hear my bank on the telephone. But I can now say 'talk to my wife - she has power of attorney'. So far that has been unnecessary because my bank knows I have hearing difficulties and only scammers ring. To them I say 'I can't hear you' before putting the phone down.

The health one? I can include provisos such as DNR which those with the power of attorney have to follow - as long as I was sane when I signed the document.

Everyone should have a durable POA, a POA for healthcare, a directive to physicians (referred to here as a living will), and a Will in the legal form required by their location. Many people will say. "what for, I'm feeling fine?" To which I responded with the getting hit by a bus scenario. Not so bad if the bus kills you outright - it's when the bus leaves you gravely injured that everything else but the Will come into play.
