The official Authors' Hangout Halloween 2020 contest Support Thread

Yeah, I know, I'm late and just got an idea. 20 days. That's not a lot of time. If not, there is always next years contest.

Is that where you chose?

Yes.

I read it, and I thought it was pretty good, but H&S? Maybe you can ask for it to be moved to another category. I have my ideas, but spoilers...

Thank you for reading. I don’t want to move it, I’m messing around in different categories on purpose. And that’s about as funny as I can get. When I write funny, it’s <4K words of hard work, and when I write sappy, it’s 15K words before I stop to breathe.

On the bright side, by the rate it’s going I’m gonna be on that “popular in the last 30 days” list, but then again, nobody is around to read those lists there, so I don’t know if that’s much of an advantage :D

Fair enough, it’s your story. You can be funny and post in other areas though.

Me too, started last night and half done. Going to see if I can finish today. So it’ll be lots of coffee for sure.

Woke up this morning with an idea in my head and didn't let it sit. Before lunch I published something for the first time in years. Of course, most of my stuff is pretty odd, so I don't expect too much, but it felt good to hit that 'publish' button again.

Congrats! Welcome back.

Plod plod plod. If I finish a half-written scene, and the lead-in to another scene, and maybe another ghost sex scene, there will exist a complete first draft. Of something.

My draft stories, numbers two, three and four, are stalled. But I have just hit submit on what was meant to be number five.

PS. and, of course, just spotted a small typo...

3K words in and I'm just getting to the good stuff. :)

Maybe, maybe, maybe, I will finish in time.

6.5k words and done. Shortest in forever. Do a final skim tonite and submit it, and then back to le novel. Sci-fi I think.

Well, I can’t, actually, since I don’t do funny. But I appreciate the advice, and if I’m ever funny again I’ll probably publish in some other category.

Not funny? You must be related to Kimi Raikkonen. :D

Good, very good. :rose::kiss:

Uh, uh, got mugged by a nap. Don't ya just hate when that happens.

What am I saying. She's never needed a nap since she was three.

The first draft is done. About 11,700 words. It’ll go in Mature. There’s a definite paucity of hot young babes, even in the ghost sex. That may be why the writing required so much plodding (which is not plotting with COVID symptoms).

I’ll start edit/rewrite tomorrow. Maybe it’ll be submitted Tuesday, give or take a day.

First story where I've actually received 6 DM comments from people happy to have found my writing. It probably helps that I published in a relatively new to me category (mature instead of romance- so not that much of a break out!) but even when I have published in LW I have received few if any DMs from readers.

I've started on a holiday story already- again trying to write different characters from what I am used to, even if just to push myself.

I love your writing, just need to find the stamina- but that's my health, not your writing.

I'm glad! I love Mature. It's a category with a lot of leeway and a pretty wise readership that often does value "romantical" aspects, even in a story that's not necessarily really romance.
