If Trump gets sick enough that he is not capable of performing the duties of President of the United States, the line of succession kicks in:

1. Vice President Mike Pence

2. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi

3. President Pro Tempore of the Senate Charles Grassley

4. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo

5. Secretary of the Treasury Steve Mnuchin

6. Secretary of Defense Mark Esper

God help us all....

Nobody on that list inspires confidence.

It really becomes a big deal only if something happens to Pence too — and Trump would have to get pretty sick before 25th Amendment stuff kicked in. (Offhand, I don't remember how long Bush I was the acting president after Reagan was shot.)

Where things get interesting — and keep in mind most people survive the disease, even those like Trump with age working against him and likely some comorbidities we don't know about — is if we get close to the election and Trump is still sick, or is "recovering" but clearly less than 100%. I don't think there's a history of anyone standing for election with a major ongoing health issue known to be hanging over their head (FDR was terminally ill in 1944, but this was not known outside his inner circle). So I can't guess how voters will react.

Here's a link to a pretty fascinating article written in the Dallas News in 2015 about that day that Reagan was shot. Brought back a lot of memories, including Haig the power-hungry clown.

It remains to be seen if Pence had any contact within the past two days with either Hope Hicks or the President. My biggest fear is the third in succession being President, even for a minute....

If he did have a mini stroke back when he made the surprise urgent visit to Walter Reed hospital, then the covid19 virus will get straight into that weakness, likewise he takes drugs for blood pressure and cholesterol and he's obese.
He's got less chance of surviving than Boris Johnson did and it was touch and go for him at one point. And he's 20 years younger than Trump.

I shall continue watching with a great deal of interest.

You can bet Dems, the Deep State, and the CCP, (who probably provided them with a dose of transferable Corona) are already praying for his death and working on a 25th Amendment scheme.:D;)
