When the Politics board was setup, it was in response to users complaining of the large number of political threads consistently filling the front page. In the "glory days" of the GeeBee, these threads were present, but were a clear minority.

Redwave, p-p-man, Miles, Marxist, PC, Texan, Siren, Lavy, Mishcka, KillerMuffin, and a host of others were among those that started and posting in political themed threads. Was there a difference then? You bet, the posters were mostly civil and posted in complete sentences and paragraphs. Look at the GB now. The first two or three pages. What have you got? Two blurt threads, God only knows how many threads that belong in their own forum, ProPics. And 95% of the balance that fall into the "I stubbed my toe" category of interest. As a matter of fact you could upload those threads to Twitter and whey would probably drag the mean IQ of the 1 billion or so Twitter users down 3 points, minimum.

There have been calls for the removal of political threads to the Politics board since the day I arrived here. To me the shift in the GB is all about the application of the emerging cancel culture mentality.

Most of the political threads have conservative origins and like elsewhere in the social media universe we see conservatives being banned, edited, shadow banned, and victims of comment ghosting. There is a lack of intellectual tolerance on the left, always has been. The free transfer of information is the enemy of the collective left. We see this intolerance for opposing points of view every time we see or hear about a Trump sign being pulled up or destroyed on private property. Every time somebody with a Trump bumper sticker finds their car keyed. When we read about or see people mobbed, pulled out of the cars and beaten half to death for having a different opinion.

This is a private site. They have every right to do what they are doing. When and if they decide to walk completely away from the principle of free speech and the free exchange of ideas, they will have every right to kick us out altogether if they want to, How surprised should we be, after all the country is divided against itself.

The powers that be here have decided to herd us into our own little camp, away from the "general" population at large, to a place where we can be given a haircut, put away for possible reeducation by future moderators. What can we do about it? Not much, we can jump the fence and head for greener political pastures, or we can ask where our new bunk and wall locker is.

Ish as always is trying the old grade school insult of " I'm made of rubber and you're made of glue" insisting that everyone else was responsible for the elimination of political threads on the GB, insisting he had nothing to do with it at all. But if the truth be known he and a few others were the largest part of the reason for that decision.

Why's that you ask? Simple, when the PB was birthed support for it was ascertained by Laural using a poll. The majority voted for a PB. As the poll played out, as the numbers climbed in the "for" column there were accusations from Ish and cohorts about how flawed it was, how there were people using multiple alts to vote for it, how it was against their god-given right to free speech, yadda, yadda, yadda. Sound familiar? It should. The same made-up bullshit is being used to poison the coming national election.

At the time the PB was set up it was made voluntary. It was made plain that it and the GB would not be moderated and that threads violating the voluntary standard wouldn't be moved from one to the other. Again Ish and cohorts swore they would never use it and they never have. So yea, I think Ish and comrades were one of the major driving forces in the recent decision by the people behind the curtain. That coupled with the deep and emotionally charge rancor being spewed (by both sides) because of the state of politics.

I tried to adhere to the use of the PB I truly did. But the only ones using it were those who I agreed with most of the time. It's hard to test what you believe by stacking it against the beliefs and opinions of those who beleive like you. Actually there were those who I agreed with and bb and clones. I stopped listening to the latter a long time ago when I realized the vast majority of what it said was angry, hateful, strident and idiotc.

Unlike some, I want what I believe to be challenged, to be proven wrong with facts if that belief is in error. That's hard to do when the only ones talking are saying much the same as you. So I tried, for a time, then sighed, gave up and returned to the threads on the GB.

I have no idea why, now, the political threads were moved to the politics board. Personally I would love to know, mainly because my curiosity has always been a keen driver of what I do. Did the powers that be finally acquire enough manpower to do it? Did they get sick of the acrimony and visceral nastiness displayed in those threads? Was there a flood of complaints about them or so many complaints they got tired of listening to the whining? Was there a legal reason I am not aware of that was the driver? It would be interesting to know, but for now it's interesting to watch how it will play out: how wil lthey react and what will they do? Stay tuned for the next episode.

It's like stirring an ant hill and watching them scurry about.

Its all new users would see when they came to the GeeBee - a politics board! A very different board than the one I and most others first came to. It's why there was such a push to give the politics junkies their own forum years back to feed their overwhelming addiction. It didn't help, and apparently Laurel saw how it needed to change.
