Am I asking too much?

Hello and thanks to all who choose to read my post.

What I seek is probably not what most here on Lit look for...friendship. I have recently moved to Wyoming after spending the first 38 years of my life in Chicago. I like the change it's made in my life and I feel I'm in a better place. The problem is, I've only been here a few months and have yet to really make any friends. Mind you I'm not the type of person that needs to be surrounded by a group of friends constantly. I consider myself pretty solitary by nature but companionship from time to time is necessary for everyone's sanity.

I consider myself pretty intelligent and I have a great sense of humor. I am a very good listener and find that I can make people feel at ease relatively quickly which is important to me. It would be great to have someone that I could be myself with and just vent when I needed to or share a really funny story. I'd like to be that outlet for someone else as well; after all, friendship is a two-way street, lol.

All the above being said, I am a very sexual person. I love having sex, talking about it and everything that leads up to it. That's where the tricky part comes in I guess. I am in no way saying that all I want is an "on the side" sex partner. Friendship is more important to me than anything else. For me to enjoy sex with someone, I have to be interested in them as a person and care about their needs and wants. I've never been one to engage in sex with random partners and am not about to start now. I want to get to know this person and have them open up to me as I would to them. If things start to go in that direction and there is a sexual attraction then we'd take it from there. I honestly think that would deepen the friendship and make it even better.

Now you might be wondering am I looking for a male or female friend? The answer is I would enjoy either...or both. I don't know how many fellow Litsters live in Wyoming so I don't know how fruitful this search will be. Suffice it to say I'm not limiting my search to this area--I would welcome making friends from anywhere. Besides with the internet...everyone is as close as your keyboard. So there it is--hopefully I'll generate some responses from those who had the patience enough to read through to the end, lol!

Jenna, I've moved a lot, and I usually find that for the first year or so, all I have is acquaintances. Even this time, when I moved to Portland where my wife has been living for six years and has a great group of friends, I don't expect to have any close friends here for a few months at least. My suggestion is to get involved in something. For me it's easy, since I'm a member of several demographics that are fairly fraternal--climbing, martial arts, medicine--but whatever your interests are, there's sure to be a group of similar-minded people around. Get involved and meet them. Be patient, but also say yes to invitations. For coffee, for dinner, for things you've never done before. And be yourself; as tempting as it can be at times to exagerate or slightly misrepresent yourself, it never pats off in the long run.
