Tomorrow I start a new job as a crossing guard.

I'm nervous because for the past 10 years I've been a stay at home mom. It's a job where you're pretty much on your own. Of course, you can contact your supervisor if there are issues, but still. Then there's having to deal with the weather.. I'm probably worried over nothing right?!?!

You'll do great... congrats!

A good pair of warm, insulated shoes, will help in the cold as well as a good warm hat.

you will be OK, just make sure you have your high visibility vest on......

and good luck! 😀

If you do a really good job, someday you may get promoted to crossing guard supervisor. :)

Nervous or not, don't let it affect your job. Pay attention to the cars and drivers. Don't be afraid to make eye contact with them. And NEVER ASSUME they see you in your high visibility vest, nor see the big flag you hold. Some drivers are inattentive, others are just plain stupid. Don't EVER trust a driver to stop until they are stopped.

99.99% of the time your job will be routine. But don't ever assume it will always be that way.

Fellow crossing guard. :)

After the first one brushes by you at 40, you'll learn to stay out of the way.

Yoga Pants.

How did your new job go? Well I hope. I'll bet trying to coral all of those lost sheep was a job in itself?

Keeping kids alive and unharmed is an important job.

You might not get the same pay or respect as some other jobs, but don't let anyone belittle what you're doing.

Make sure you have good shoes and coats for all weather.

not really related much, but you made me remember my middle school bus driver. whenever a car passed us illegally, she had all us kids jotting down license plates, then she'd turn them into the cops. it was the best school bus game ever. best of luck!

I am sure you nail your new job, and seeing all those kiddies walking across safely should make you feel very proud and powerful! Bonne chance xxx

Thoughts on supplementing your earnings while schools are in lockdown:

1) Webcamming x'ing guard. Take off the reflective vest at goal.

Others may chime with with their own ideas.
