The latest, AOC was all over Kimberly Guilfoyle. So KG gives a speech at the RNC. No biggie. No surprises either. In it she says that she (KG) is a "proud latina" and later refers to herself as "first generation" US citizen.

AOC, tweets, "The woman the GOP picked as their “proud” Latina to tout “immigrant experience” didn’t seem to know that Puerto Rico is already part of the United States."

Here's the problem. KG's affirmation of being a Latina is just a legitimate as AOC's. They both have Puerto Rican mothers. KG's was born in Puerto Rico, AOC's was born in the Bronx. It seems that AOC's rather snarky implication that KG is somehow less of a Latina somehow and therefore that delegitimizes any Republican Latina perspective she might have. Sorry. That doesn't cut it.

Then there is the issue of being a "first generation" immigrant. Pre AOC, since KG's mother was born in PR, a US territory, she didn't really immigrate from another country. Let's leave the fact that "moving" from PR isn't exactly like moving from the Bronx to Boston. KG's father was born in Ireland. Yep. Prett much another country.

I have never heard anyone being classified as a "half generation" US citizen. You're pretty much considered a first generation US citizen if either parent was born outside the US.
